Youth-Driven Learning in Action

Quantum Vision Quest (QVQ) is helping lead a free after-school STEAM program where students learn about the impacts of stormwater runoff and how rain gardens can protect neighborhoods and waterways.

This year we are putting youth voice into practice by inviting four returning veteran students to help shape the program, guide activities, and support younger participants.

More details on program dates coming soon.

Watch for the flyer!

Transportation is one of the most significant barriers to student participation in after-school programs. While many families value enrichment opportunities for their children, the lack of reliable transportation after the school day often makes consistent participation difficult. Work schedules, distance from school, and limited transportation options can prevent students from accessing programs that support learning, creativity, and community engagement.

Quantum Vision Quest (QVQ) recently participated in a community discussion exploring the potential impact of an after-school transportation pilot serving the Cody Rouge neighborhood. A dedicated after-school bus route could help remove a major barrier and allow more students to participate in educational and enrichment activities.

Organizations driving this initiative this are St. Suzanne Cody Rouge Community Center, Quantum Vision Quest, and the Detroit Bus Company.

To better understand family needs and demonstrate parent support for this effort, QVQ has created a brief online survey. Your feedback will help inform community partners and decision-makers as they evaluate the need for an after-school transportation pilot in the neighborhood.

This year's theme was Belonging by Design, Thriving Together.

The break out groups were very informative. I concentrated on breakout sessions which were in regard to youth driven spaces.

In addition to networking with educational leaders, teachers, etc. there were a multitude of really cool vendors in attendance.

My favorite exhibits included using a banana to create music, think a piano key where each banana represented a different note in a scale. You touched the banana and a note played.

I also took advantage of a free headshot opportunity. I have started adding the new photo where I can.

Join OST professionals, youth leaders, partners, and advocates from across Michigan for the 2026 MAC Annual Conference, happening February 26–27 at the Suburban Collection Showplace in Novi.

Wow. I just realized I haven't posted here in a while!

St Suzanne was able to secure a 32n grant from the state of Michigan. For those of you not in the know, that is a great honor which supports OST (Out of School Time) programs. In our case, this supports an after school program where QVQ supports curriculum / instruction for STEAM (i.e. coding, educational robots, etc.).

This cohort currently runs until 5/28/2026. A little late for registration at this point. Next iteration, I will post here!

Check out St. Suzanne Cody Rouge Community Center for it's expanded after school program offerings!

We are a parish based community resource center in the heart of the Cody Rouge neighborhood. We provide services to children, youth and families alike, host large community events, and rent classrooms and large spaces.
