On Saturday, September 26, 2026, the Saltaires competed at the Rocky Mountain District Fall Convention & Contest in Colorado Springs with “(What a) Wonderful World” and “Basics Medley,” both arranged by Grant Goulding. With 23 men on stage, we scored an 82 and qualified for the 2027 Barbershop Harmony Society International Competition.
On Tuesday, October 13, 2026, we were officially notified that we had been disqualified from the RMD contest and, as a result, from the 2027 International Competition due to a song clearance technicality. Despite multiple efforts by Wasatch Front Chapter leadership — in coordination with the BHS Society Contest and Judging Committee (SCJC) and others — to secure clearance both before the contest and in the period afterward, we were ultimately unable to do so.
Rules are rules. The Wasatch Front Chapter and the Saltaires understand and respect them. Our disqualification was justified, and we accept it. We thank the BHS and the SCJC for their clear communications throughout this process.
To our Saltaires brothers: Competing and qualifying requires your time, money, travel, effort, and emotion. The Wasatch Front Chapter leadership offers our sincerest apologies for this outcome. Procedures and protocols are now in place to ensure this does not happen again.
Those familiar with the Saltaires know that over the past four years we have made immense strides in identity, culture, singing, musicality, and performance. It feels like we're just finding ourselves again. This disqualification does not define us. We will continue to progress, develop, perform, make an impact in our community, build and strengthen relationships with each other and those around the Wasatch Front, and there will be more opportunities for us to compete on the biggest stage together.
It’s Great To Be A Saltaire!
