Every mother carries something for her family.
Graciela carries water.
Up to five times a day, she hikes steep mountain paths near her home in Peres Reforma to collect water for cooking, cleaning, bathing, and caring for her son, Alexander.
Alexander lives with severe disabilities and frequent seizures. Every Monday, Graciela’s husband carries him down the mountain on his back to rehab appointments, helping him slowly learn to walk.
There is no water at their home. Some mornings, Graciela wakes at 3 a.m. to collect water from a nearby well — and even then, it must still be boiled before it’s safe to drink.
“I won’t be here forever,” she says. “My daughter will need to take care of him.”
This Mother’s Day, we honor mothers like Graciela — women who do whatever it takes for the people they love. ❤️

Last night, our work reached a new audience at the Denver Botanic Gardens premiere of ‘Drops of Life’ – a film exploring how access to water shapes life, culture, and survival around the world.

Two of the communities that we serve in Guatemala and Mexico were featured. Our lead engineer, Walter, joined the Q&A to speak to the awareness of our work happening on the ground.

We are grateful to Billy Kanaly, the director, and Denver Botanic Gardens for making this film and featuring the communities we love!
