We're profoundly sad to share that one of our co-founders, Susan Renick, passed away earlier this month. Susan was an integral part of the founding team of A Little Something in 2008. Her love for the refugee community--and especially the women in A Little Something--was immeasurable. Susan was one of the kindest, gentlest, most caring humans any of us could have shared time with. We were fortunate to have known her. This is a sad day.

From UNHCR:

This year, World Refugee Day focuses on solidarity with refugees.

Solidarity means honouring refugees not just with words but with actions. It means listening to them and making space for their stories. It means defending their right to seek safety and finding solutions to their plight, ending conflicts so they can return home in safety.

It means ensuring they have opportunities to thrive in the communities that have welcomed them and providing countries with the resources they need to include and support refugees.

But above all, solidarity means saying, clearly and courageously, that refugees are not alone and that we will not turn our backs.

We have a question. Are you still with us? In the face of ongoing wars, humanitarian crises and displacement, the world must not look away. -----------------...

Friends, this is the final week you can purchase our remaining items on display at Rivers and Roads Coffee's Curtis Park location, 2960 Champa St, Denver. Thanks to all of you supported us by shopping there and deepest thanks to Rivers and Roads for hosting us for the last three years.

To Our Beautiful Community,

We just wanted to let you know that through much consideration, we have decided to close our Curtis Park location (2960 Champa st). Don’t worry, you’ll still be able to visit us just 5 minutes down the road at our original spot, 2539 Bruce Randolph Ave. Thank you so much for all the love and support you’ve shown our little satellite location these last three years. We can’t even begin to tell you how grateful we are for this community and we look forward to seeing your smiling faces for many years to come. Our official last day at Curtis Park is Saturday, April 12th so please stop by and say goodbye (or see ya later at our other location 😉). We love you all!

We also have the honor of sharing the exciting news that our good friends will be taking over the Curtis Park space, offering traditional Cuban pastries. Not only are their pastries incredible, they are also some of the most kind-hearted, incredible people we know and will be a huge asset to the community! Stay tuned for their opening date and be sure to show them some love.

In 2008, A Little Something was started primarily as a way to provide refugee women with a supportive space to share their experiences and express themselves in ways they couldn't with words. Building community and uplifting self-esteem have always been important facets of this organization.

It's possible we'll need to conclude our work and close A Little Something for good this year. Funding has become nearly nonexistent, and without it, we can't secure a studio space. But that's not the point of this post. On today's CBS Sunday Morning show, there was a great explanation of how the arts and community help us to be healthier human beings, inside and out.

According to thousands of studies, researchers have determined that involvement in the arts can improve public health and promote healing from illness, as well as protect against such problems as cognitive decline, heart disease, anxiety and depression. Hello, friends. Our situation hasn't changed much since this post from a few months ago. We really need a space for a studio. An affordable, dedicated space. We've been looking at office spaces on the east side of town, but everything is crazy expensive (despite high vacancy rates--go figure). It's difficult for us to raise money if we can't show supporters we have a working studio, but we can't rent anything without money.

Ideally, we need 500-1000 sf, windows (natural light), 24-hour access, and a location accessible by RTD (but also parking). If you know of a place we should consider, please drop us a line at [email protected]. If you can help us financially with this venture, check our website for how best to do that. https://sites.google.com/site/refugeecraftsdenver/make-financial-donations?authuser=0

Organizations should be able to raise funds for free and keep 100% of what they raise. This contribution helps make that possible. It helps cover the cost of security, support, web hosting, and maintenance so that this organization and its donors can be supported by real humans and best-in-class sof...

On Giving Tuesday, we know that many deserving nonprofits will be asking you to donate. Please keep us in mind today as you consider where your money can have a significant impact. Our immediate goals are to cover the costs of the storage unit we've been using as a temporary headquarters and eventually, finally rent a new studio. Without a space where we can gather, it's extremely difficult for our participants to meet, create, build community, and earn income from their work. You can help! Follow the link to be part of this Giving Tuesday. As always, we deeply appreciate your support!

Do you know what tomorrow is? November 30 is Small Business Saturday. Think of it as an antidote to the big-business hyped, mega-corporation-fueled spending spree that is Black Friday. Some businesses are smaller than others. Ours is tiny but tenacious, yet very much needing support. Stop by the Curtis Park location of Rivers and Roads Coffee at 2960 Champa St. in Denver and enjoy a coffee drink along with a delicious gluten-free pastry while you shop our display of handmade jewelry and textiles.
