250 Years - U.S. Declaration of Independence Roots

Suzana Cesarek, Consul General of the Republic of Slovenia in Cleveland, shows us our intercultural ties and legacy:

"Did you know that an ancient Slovenian democratic tradition may have helped inspire the ideas behind the U.S. Declaration of Independence? According to a longstanding historical theory, Thomas Jefferson encountered the medieval Installation of the Dukes of Carinthia through the writings of the 16th-century French philosopher Jean Bodin. The ceremony originated in the ancient Duchy of Carantania—one of the first Slavic states, established by the ancestors of today's Slovenes—was founded on the principle that political authority derives from the consent of the people, centuries before the emergence of modern democracy.

While historians continue to debate the extent of this influence, the story highlights Slovenia's rich democratic heritage and its fascinating connection to the founding ideals of the United States. A commemorative plaque in downtown Cleveland, dedicated during the U.S. Bicentennial, celebrates this unique Slovenian-American legacy."

80th Annual One World Day
Sunday – August 30

This event will be held at the Cleveland Cultural Gardens along Martin Luther King Boulevard and East Boulevard.

The British Garden will be participating in One World Day along with all the other cultural gardens along Martin Luther King Blvd and East Avenue in Cleveland

The British Cultural Garden brings deep historical roots to One World Day. As the foundational site of the Cleveland Cultural Gardens in 1916, the Garden is a unique part of British heritage and culture in Cleveland, situated amongst a community of some 33 national gardens. Come and see and enjoy our recent improvements to the garden.

If you’re of British heritage, come and join us in the parade of flags! The parade will kick off at noon; come to the British garden beforehand to get details.

We’ll also be participating in the Passport to Peace, which has been a wonderful tool to encourage people to visit the individual gardens and to learn about the different cultures represented. It’s fun for all ages!

BACC-Ohio New Young Professional Member

Hello everyone! My name is Aazaz Peer, and I am thrilled to join the BACC. I am the owner of Rental Tali LLC, which is a fancy way of saying I’m the guy who answers the phones, writes the code, and cleans the office. I specialize in custom web development, hosting, and keeping client websites from crashing.

By day, I work as a Field Service Engineer I at 3C Technology Solutions dealing with network engineering and hardware. So when I'm building or migrating a website for a client, there’s a solid foundation of actual tech knowledge backing it up (and plenty of coffee).

I joined the BACC to connect with fellow local business owners, swap stories, and help anyone who needs a reliable hand making sense of their website or domain setup. I promise to explain tech stuff in plain English, and I look forward to meeting you all!
