Canalway Partners We exist to preserve the natural & cultural experiences of the Ohio & Erie Canalway.

Canalway Partners is a non-profit cultural heritage organization that serves as a catalyst for projects and programs within the Ohio & Erie Canalway National Heritage Area in Cuyahoga County. We exist to preserve the natural and cultural experiences of the Ohio & Erie Canalway National Heritage Area for the future by serving as a catalyst for projects and programs that connect people to place for the prosperity of all. We accomplish this work by collaborating with strategic partners, acting as an advocate for the National Heritage Area, and increasing public education and experiences around the history, heritage and environment of our historic Canalway. Throughout our 35 year history, Canalway has led the development of the Northern end of the Towpath Trail, initiated the development of Canal Basin Park and programmed acclaimed Cleveland events including The Towpath Marathon, the Towpath Trilogy and RiverSweep.

What stories are waiting to be uncovered in Cleveland’s oldest cemeteries?

Join Canalway for Buried History Days, Oct. 22–25, a four-day series exploring some of Cleveland’s most historic cemeteries.

From tours and hikes to presentations and even trick-or-treating in a cemetery, there are plenty of ways to discover the lives—and deaths—of Clevelanders dating back to the early 1800s.

And don’t worry—these events are designed to enlighten, not frighten!

Show your Cleveland pride by doing your part!

Join us for a one-hour litter cleanups on Sunday evenings this fall in Canal Basin Park. Inspired by our annual RiverSweep, cleanups are scheduled after Browns' home games so volunteers can help “sweep" the park clean after busy weekends in downtown.

Buried History Days is returning October 22- 25!

Like Cleveland History Days, this autumn event helps people connect to historic spaces, specifically Cleveland's historic cemeteries! Buried History Days events are designed to enlighten, not frighten, and include different ways to learn more about the lives (and deaths) of Clevelanders dating back to the early 1800s through tours, hikes, presentations and even trick-or-treating in a cemetery.

Registration varies by event. While some events are free, some require tickets and/or fees. Please plan accordingly.

It's a new week, and we've got a new event volunteer opportunity for you! Volunteers are needed on Saturday, Oct. 3 to assist at water stations along the marathon route or at the finish line. Free parking, beverages, snacks and event T-shirt provided.

This is a great opportunity to support local athletes, enjoy the excitement of race day, and be part of a community event that promotes health, wellness and achievement.

Have you visited Canalway's Hart Crane Memorial Park?

Hart Crane was a poet born in Ohio in 1899. He is best known for his work "The Bridge" (1930). The park is home to a memorial sculpture—designed by Cleveland artist Gene Kangas. It was installed in 1995 at Hart Crane Park on Merwin Ave by the Columbus Road Lift Bridge, right on the Cuyahoga. The blue steel “waves” and rusted arch carry Crane’s river lines, connecting his work to Cleveland. The park is a great place to connect to the Cuyahoga River and spend a quiet moment reflecting.
