As the 2025-26 school year comes to a close, we’re grateful to have wrapped up our final K-12 school training last week at Solon Schools Middle School.

This school year, the Allison Rose Foundation trained and educated more than 6,500 students and staff on allergies, anaphylaxis and the importance of being prepared to act in an emergency.

Thank you to every school that welcomed us into your classrooms this year. We’re already looking forward to the 2026-27 school year and continuing this lifesaving education with even more students, staff and school communities.

A very special moment for the Allison Rose Foundation.

We are so proud of Ryan Suhy for presenting this year’s Allison Rose Foundation Scholarship at Independence Local Schools, in honor of his sister, Allison. This scholarship is one of the many ways we continue her legacy by recognizing a student who reflects kindness, compassion and a commitment to making a difference.

Congratulations to this year’s recipient, Alex Waski, and thank you to all who help keep Allison’s light shining.

Instructor Spotlight: Meredith Junko

For Meredith Junko, teaching with the Allison Rose Foundation is about helping others feel prepared, informed and ready to act.

Meredith has been an ARF instructor for two years after becoming involved through LEARN CPR, where she also serves as a CPR instructor. A former certified athletic trainer, Meredith has always had a passion for caring for others. She also has served as a ski patroller at Boston Mills/Brandywine for 11 years, using her first aid skills to help people in the community when they need it most.

As an ARF instructor, Meredith especially enjoys teaching students about allergy awareness and how being prepared can save a life. She values the opportunity to help teens talk openly about allergies, look out for one another and feel more comfortable advocating for themselves and their friends.

Meredith also brings personal understanding to the mission. Her child has celiac disease, which has required her family to carefully read labels, ask questions about food preparation, plan ahead when traveling and navigate social situations where food is involved.

“Our situation is not as serious as an allergy, but it has taught me to have a better understanding of life with a food allergy,” Meredith shared.

During Food Allergy Awareness Week, we are grateful for instructors like Meredith who bring compassion, education and real-world experience to ARF’s mission of making communities safer through awareness, preparedness and access to epinephrine.

Instructor Spotlight: Marvin Willock

For Marvin Willock, serving as an Allison Rose Foundation instructor is rooted in purpose.

Marvin has been part of the ARF instructor team for two years, joining because he believes deeply in the foundation’s life-saving mission.

A full-time firefighter and paramedic for 18 years, Marvin spent four years with the City of Canton Fire Department and has served with the City of South Euclid for the past 14 years. He brings extensive emergency response experience to every ARF training.

He also brings a personal connection to the mission. Marvin lives with a shellfish allergy and understands the importance of awareness, preparedness and knowing how to respond when every second matters.

A proud father of two, Marvin is honored to help educate others and make more schools, businesses and communities safer for those living with food allergies.

During Food Allergy Awareness Week, we are grateful for instructors like Marvin who bring experience, heart and personal understanding to this life-saving work.

Instructor Spotlight: Eric and Lauren Thompson

For Eric and Lauren Thompson, the Allison Rose Foundation’s mission is deeply personal.

Close friends of the Suhy family, Eric and Lauren knew Ally and have seen firsthand how Mike and Becca turned unimaginable loss into a foundation created to educate, prepare and protect others in her honor.

Eric has been part of ARF’s instructor team since the beginning of the foundation. A firefighter and paramedic with the City of South Euclid since 2008, where he currently serves as captain, Eric brings years of emergency response experience to every training.

Lauren, who recently joined ARF’s instructor team, brings her own background in health care. She has been a nurse practitioner for 14 years, working in aesthetics and wellness.

Together, Eric and Lauren are proud to help carry forward a mission that honors Ally’s life and helps make more schools, businesses, restaurants and communities prepared to recognize and respond to anaphylaxis.

During Food Allergy Awareness Week, we are grateful for instructors like Eric and Lauren who bring compassion, professional expertise and a personal connection to this life-saving work.

Instructor Spotlight: Matt Benedict

For Matt Benedict, food allergy awareness is both personal and professional.

Matt, a lieutenant/paramedic with the Eastlake Fire Department and Fire & EMS instructor at Auburn Career Center, has served as an Allison Rose Foundation instructor for four years.

His connection to food allergies began when his son was a toddler and was diagnosed with multiple allergies. At the time, Matt and his wife found there were limited resources available to help educate school and restaurant staff, so they spent years advocating for allergy-safe environments that protected their son without restricting others.

“Having an allergy or a loved one with an allergy may seem overwhelming at first, but it gets easier with time,” Matt shared. “For us, it changed all of our lives for the better. We became more creative with the way we cooked and discovered a healthier lifestyle.”

Through ARF, Matt is able to bring together his experience as a dad and as a paramedic to help others recognize anaphylaxis and respond with confidence in an emergency.

“I’m honored to be part of the Allison Rose Foundation and its mission,” Matt said. “It allows me to share what I have learned in hopes of making the community safer for those with allergies.”

During Food Allergy Awareness Week, we are grateful for instructors like Matt who bring real-life experience, compassion and emergency response expertise to this life-saving work.

As we recognize Food Allergy Awareness Week, we’re proud to spotlight some of the incredible instructors who help bring the Allison Rose Foundation’s mission to life.

Throughout the week, we’ll introduce members of our instructor team and share why they are passionate about educating others on anaphylaxis, epinephrine and the importance of being prepared to respond in an emergency.

Their commitment helps make our communities safer, more informed and ready to act when every second matters.

Instructor Spotlight: Amber Addis

For Amber Addis, RN, teaching with the Allison Rose Foundation is both professional and personal.

Introduced to ARF through her friend Rachel Rexroad of LEARN CPR, Amber has spent the past two years helping educate others on how to recognize anaphylaxis and respond in an emergency.

As a nurse and mom, Amber understands the fear and vigilance that can come with managing food allergies. Her daughter, Charlotte, was diagnosed as an infant with FPIES, a rare food protein allergy that required strict dietary planning, careful label reading and an emergency action plan always close in mind.

“Teaching with the Allison Rose Foundation gives me the opportunity to educate and empower others to save lives,” Amber shared. “My family’s experience gave me a deep sense of empathy for those navigating food allergies every day.”

Amber also recognizes that ARF’s mission was born from the unimaginable loss of Ally Suhy. She is honored to help carry forward the foundation’s work, created by Chief Michael Suhy and Becca Suhy, to educate, prepare and help protect others.

During Food Allergy Awareness Week, we are grateful for instructors like Amber who bring compassion, experience and purpose to every training.
