DION performs one of the most iconic songs of the ’60s.

At the 1988 Grammy Awards, following Michael Jackson’s show-stopping performance of "Man in the Mirror," 1989 Inductee Dion closed the show with a surprise rendition of “Runaround Sue.”

Originally a No. 1 hit on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1961, the song was reportedly improvised years earlier in a Bronx basement, where Dion and his friend Ernie Maresca clapped and sang it to entertain a crowd.

2026 Inductee Fela Kuti built Afrobeat, a self-declared independent commune in Lagos, and one of the most defiant bodies of work in music history — all while the Nigerian government spent decades trying to shut him down.

Fela Kuti died in 1997, but his influence on global music — across Afrobeat, hip-hop, jazz, and beyond — has only grown since.

Cat Stevens’ classic “Wild World,” featured on the landmark 1970 album Tea for the Tillerman, remains just as powerful decades later.

The 2014 Inductee revealed that the song emerged after a near-death experience caused by complications from tuberculosis: “I was trying to relate to my life. I was at the point where it was beginning to happen, and I was myself going into the world.”

Watch Yusuf / Cat Stevens perform "Wild World" in 1971.
