Breast Cancer Fund of Ohio

Breast Cancer Fund of Ohio Our Mission is to help Ohio breast cancer patients with the day-to-day challenges of living while being treated for breast cancer.

The Breast Cancer Fund of Ohio (BCFOhio) is a statewide, independent, nonprofit organization established in November 2004 and incorporated January 2005. It is the only statewide breast cancer organization that keeps 100% of funds in Ohio. Formed by survivors, the purpose of the Breast Cancer Fund of Ohio is to distribute funds from the sale of Ohio's Breast Cancer Awareness License Plate to organi

zations around Ohio for emergency financial assistance to breast cancer patients and to improve access to quality health care and clinical trials.

We’re incredibly grateful to South East Harley-Davidson for their continued support of the Breast Cancer Fund of Ohio. 💗

Last weekend, we had the opportunity to attend their annual Corn Roast, where they presented BCFO with an amazing $10,000 donation!

We’re so thankful for the relationship we’ve built with the Southeast Harley-Davidson family and for their commitment to helping Ohio breast cancer patients.

Thank you to everyone at Southeast Harley-Davidson for believing in our mission and helping us make a difference for those who need it most. 💕🏍️

Here's how the process works when a patient needs help from BCFO.

A nurse, social worker, or case manager at a partnering Ohio nonprofit completes our Individual Grant Application on the patient's behalf, requesting up to $1,000 toward things like transportation, housing, child care, or treatment costs insurance doesn't cover. Once our Board of Directors approves it, the funds go straight to that organization, who puts the money directly toward what the patient needs.

If you're in active treatment, start by talking to your oncology social worker or care team. They can help connect you with us. If you're a provider organization, the Individual Grant Application is on bcfohio.org under our forms page.

Today we had our annual in-person meeting for the Breast Cancer Fund of Ohio. Breast cancer has touched so many of our lives, whether personally or through someone we love, which makes this work especially meaningful. 💗

Over the last few years, we’ve seen an increase in applications for assistance and, thankfully, an increase in fundraisers and donations as well. We are incredibly grateful for every person, business and organization that continues to support our mission. Because of that generosity, we’re able to provide financial assistance to more Ohioans facing breast cancer when they need it most.

We truly can’t thank our community enough for continuing to show up for our organization and the people we serve. 💕

A breast cancer diagnosis comes with more than a treatment plan. It comes with missed paychecks, mounting bills, and a lot of quiet stress that nobody talks about at the appointment.

BCFO exists for that part. Each year we put thousands of dollars into the hands of Ohio nonprofits that provide emergency funding directly to breast cancer patients in active treatment, covering things like housing, utilities, and food while someone focuses on getting well. Every dollar raised stays right here in Ohio.

This is community taking care of its own. If that's a mission worth backing, we would love to have you.

Here's a small way to make a big difference: the Drive Hope license plate.

Every time an Ohioan adds this plate to their car, a portion of that fee comes straight to BCFO and goes toward helping people in active treatment stay afloat financially. It's one of the simplest ways to support our mission, and you don't have to do anything extra once it's on your car. It just keeps giving, mile after mile.

If you've been thinking about switching your plate, now's a good time. Ohio BMV has the details, or ask us and we'll point you in the right direction.

If you or someone you love is in the middle of breast cancer treatment in Ohio, you already know how fast the bills stack up. Rent doesn't pause for chemo. The electric bill doesn't care that you missed work for a scan.

That's where BCFO comes in. Since our founding, we've helped Ohio families cover the everyday costs that treatment doesn't leave room for: housing, groceries, gas to get to appointments, medical bills. No one should have to choose between paying rent and getting care.

If you know someone who needs support, send them our way. That's what we're here for.

Meet Eileen Reed, one of our dedicated board members.

Eileen was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2013. She was open about her journey on social media at the time, and that openness led to an unexpected opportunity: her high school classmate, Dr. Amy Rock, suggested Eileen take her place on the BCFO board when she moved out of state.

Eileen said yes because she knows firsthand how much a strong support system matters during treatment. Having had a supportive employer and insurance while going through her own diagnosis, she joined BCFO to help make sure others facing breast cancer have that same support, no matter their circumstances.

Since 2015, Eileen has brought her voice and her lived experience to our board, helping us reach and support people across Ohio.

Thank you, Eileen, for over 10 years of service and advocacy!
