Global Cleveland wishes all who celebrate a happy Rosh Hashanah, Yom Kippur, and Sukkot this year! September is a busy month for us here at Global Cleveland, but it is imperative that we highlight the several holidays that will be happening throughout the month.

Rosh Hashanah: The Jewish New Year that is a celebration of renewal and reflection. This holiday is a time for fresh starts, transformation, and sweetness.

Yom Kippur: The Day of Atonement is the holiest day of the Jewish year. On this day, there is fasting, prayer, and meaningful connection between celebrants.

Sukkot: On Sukkot, celebrants spend days building huts called "sukkah" to remind them of their ancestors and focus on the beauty of the world we live in.

We are proud to announce the panelists for the City of Cleveland - City Hall's Welcoming Week event, The Cleveland Era: A Global Welcome! Global Cleveland is excited to partner with the city for this extravagant event celebrating Cleveland’s identity as a welcoming, globally connected city.

The program will explore Cleveland’s growing global presence, the role of newcomers and immigrant communities in shaping the city’s civic, cultural, and economic life, and how welcoming is central to Cleveland’s future. The discussion will also connect to the broader Cleveland ERA vision, including affordability, neighborhood vibrancy, public safety, economic growth, modern infrastructure, business attraction, and building a City Hall that works more efficiently for residents and businesses.

Today, we're highlighting one of the 250 voices we're collecting in celebration of our 15th anniversary and America's 250th anniversary. Rev. Dr. Karen Georgia Thompson shares her experience of her family's migration to the United States from Kingston, Jamaica when she was a teenager. She extends her gratitude for Cleveland's welcoming community and warm hospitality.

The Global Cleveland team had an absolute blast at One World Day 2026!

This year's One World Day celebrates the 250th anniversary of the founding of the United States and the impact that immigrants have made on the nation. Cleveland's Cultural Gardens were thriving with pride, culture, and entertainment as the festival went on. We are proud to have such a rich cultural community, right here in Cleveland.

Global Cleveland was honored to host a meeting between Cuyahoga County Executive Chris Ronayne and Consul General of Italy Paolo Zanotto.

Consul Zanotto was visiting for Cleveland’s storied Feast of the Assumption, a historic festival centered around Holy Rosary Church in the Little Italy neighborhood. The group discussed how to grow our region’s relationship with Italy, including through building more ties in areas like healthcare, education, sustainable technologies, and manufacturing and growing people-to-people ties.

The County Executive and the Consul both noted major opportunities for increased engagement between Northeast Ohio and Italy in the future, and we are excited to help grow this relationship!

Introducing the panelists for the kickoff event of this year's Welcoming Week — America 250: From Newcomers to Nation Builders!

Held in partnership with Saint Martin de Porres High School, sponsored by America 250-Ohio, and moderated by Michael Brennan, this special program will explore different chapters of Cleveland’s history and the communities that have helped build and strengthen our city over time.

The conversation will highlight early immigrant roots in Cleveland, the lasting civic and cultural contributions of communities such as Irish, Slovenian, Italian, and Ukrainian Clevelanders, and the experiences of newer communities, including Cleveland’s Congolese community.
