Rewiring Orthodontics with Intelligent Design

Pensa, an Industrial Design consultancy, and its innovation group, Pensa Labs created the C64 Orthodontic Kit to modernize wire appliance fabrication, a process long dependent on slow, error-prone manual bending. Combining precision hardware with intuitive WireWare Dt software, the system enables lab technicians to produce patient-specific appliances directly from 3D scans. The result: faster onboarding of new technicians, higher output, fewer errors, and a scalable, inclusive, and more sustainable model for orthodontic care.

As the Founder of Plan, an independent product strategy consultancy established in 2004, Kevin McCullagh leads a team of researchers, strategists, and designers focused on helping organizations anticipate and respond to change.

He has an important message for recent graduates, early-career professionals, and employers: new research suggests that the collapse in entry-level hiring is not primarily due to AI. Instead, evidence points to remote work, which has reduced opportunities for the training and mentoring that help new employees succeed.

For recent graduates and early-career professionals, Kevin will highlight two important considerations:
- Be Proactive: Create opportunities rather than waiting for them.
- Lean into Complexity: Develop skills in the complex, ambiguous, and human-centered challenges where human judgment, creativity, and adaptability still outperform AI.
