It is with profound sadness that we mourn the tragic loss of AFSCME Local 419 member Corporal Brett Martin, who was tragically struck and killed while off duty after stopping to help a stranded motorist in Boxford.

AFSCME Council 93 extends our deepest condolences to Corporal Martin's family, friends, and union brothers and sisters.

Rest in Peace Brother Martin.

The Suffolk County Sheriff’s Department is mourning the loss of Corporal Brett Martin.

Corporal Martin, age 51, was reportedly attempting to assist a stranded motorist on Interstate 95 in Boxford, Massachusetts, when he was tragically struck by a motor vehicle. According to reports, he was taken to a local hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries.

Corporal Martin began his career with the Suffolk County Sheriff’s Department as a correction officer in February of 2008. He worked in a number of different positions within the Suffolk County House of Correction, and was most recently stationed at a security post in the Kitchen at the House of Correction.

Corporal Martin was a dedicated, thoughtful and courageous member of the Suffolk County Sheriff’s Department, who exhibited a selflessness, care and concern for others that was evident to all who knew him. His legacy of bravery and self-sacrifice will endure among those with whom he served and among his colleagues throughout corrections and the law enforcement community.

He will be greatly missed by all here within the Department, and we offer our deepest sympathy and condolences to his family and friends, and our collective support as they grieve this profound loss.

Yesterday under sunny skies at CrossWinds Golf Club in Plymouth, the AFSCME Council 93 Charitable Foundation teed off its second annual golf tournament to support the Foundation’s growing mission of providing scholarships, disaster relief, and assistance to working families in need throughout Council 93’s Northern New England region.

The field of over 200 golfers was made up of AFSCME Council 93 members, leaders, friends, supporters, and allies. The tournament raised thousands of dollars for the AFSCME Council 93 Charitable Foundation through donations, raffle ticket sales, and sponsorships.
