Please read the attached statement from the Boston Emergency Services Division of the BPPA.

Local 718 stands in firm solidarity with our Brothers & Sisters of Boston EMS. There is no excuse for violence of any kind towards First Responders. As we have zero tolerance for violence against our Firefighters, Police Officers, & EMS personnel, so should the elected officials of our city and state.

Local 718 joins Boston EMS in calling upon the District Attorney to pursue charges and punishment to the fullest extent of the law and we call on our elected officials to publicly condemn acts of violence against First Responders in Boston, Massachusetts, and beyond.

19 years ago tonight, Brother Firefighters Paul Cahill & Warren Payne gave their lives in the performance of their duties while battling a building fire in the West Roxbury neighborhood of Boston.

We pause to call to mind the sacrifices of our Brother Firefighters and their families.

May they never be forgotten.

Election ballots for the Boston Retirement Board are arriving in the mail to city workers.

The choices are clear.

Sean Kelly, Local 718

Over his 33-year career with the Boston Fire Department, Sean has attained the rank of District Chief, held numerous Union positions, and most importantly, serves as the current Chair of the Retirement Board. During his recent term on the Board, Kelly was instrumental in increasing the retiree COLA base, advocating for fiscal responsibility within our pension system, and protecting the hard-earned retirement benefits of city workers.

Karen Cross, Boston Teachers Union

Also a current member of the Retirement Board, Karen Cross proudly served the families of Boston as a public school teacher, fought for her fellow teachers as an officer with the Teachers’ Union, and continues to advocate on behalf of current and future retirees.

Boston Firefighters Local 718 has unanimously endorsed Sean Kelly and Karen Cross for re-election to the Boston Retirement Board and we urge all city workers, past and present, to cast their votes for those who carry their voice.

Men and women who dedicate their lives to serving others don’t deserve to suffer in silence.

It’s time to end the stigma attached to mental and emotional injuries and ensure that none of our members ever fight alone.
