The men and women of Local 589 were honored to provide transportation for our brothers, sisters, and siblings in the International Association of Fire Fighters as they gathered to say their final goodbye to Boston Firefighters Local 718 IAFF member Bobby Kilduff Jr. during services on Sunday and Monday.

It was a privilege to play a small role in honoring a life of service and sacrifice and to stand in solidarity with those mourning such a profound loss. Our hearts are with his family, friends, and fellow firefighters during this difficult time.

Earlier today, Local 589 President Jim Evers and Vice President Billy Berardino addressed the 2026 ATU Legislative Conference in Washington, D.C., highlighting Local 589’s successful campaign to pass the transit worker assault bill last year.

Sharing our experience and learning from fellow ATU locals across the United States and Canada strengthens our union and our movement. By standing together, we continue advancing safer workplaces, stronger protections, and better working conditions for transit workers everywhere.

Join the Local 589 Executive Board in welcoming 22 new brothers and sisters to our union family. We wish them the very best as they begin their careers as Streetcar Motorpersons. After completing their training, they will officially begin service on the Green Line next week.
