Part of the J-1 adventure is all the little moments that make it unforgettable — going to an American barbecue 🍔, catching your first baseball or American football game 🏈, and spending way too much at Target.

We’ve put together a J-1 Bingo card with some of these classic experiences (yes, including getting asked about your accent!). How many can you check off? ✅ Share your score below

We’re back with another common question about how long the J-1 Graduate Visa is. It can be tricky to keep all the rules straight, but it’s really important to stay within the visa requirements and remain compliant while you’re in the U.S. ✅

The visa lasts for 12 months and comes with two 30-day grace periods. One at the beginning to settle in can be a great opportunity to extend your job search time beyond the 90 days you have once your visa starts. Remember, you cannot work during this grace period, but it’s a perfect time to network and learn more about your industry in your city.

The second grace period at the end of your program gives you 30 days to wrap things up, such as selling any belongings you can’t take home, moving out, saying your goodbyes, and maybe even doing some exploring and traveling. 🌎✈️

At Rian J-1, we recommend making the most of your time in the U.S. and we’re here to help you do so. Just remember to communicate with us if you have any questions or concerns. 💬

Wondering why you have today off or why the post office is closed? It’s Labor Day in the U.S., a holiday that celebrates the contributions of workers. It’s been around for more than a century and also marks the unofficial end of summer ☀️.

For many of you on the J-1, this might be your first time experiencing Labor Day here. You’ll notice lots of people heading to barbecues 🍔, parades 🎉, or the beach 🏖️, while others enjoy a quiet long weekend before fall begins.

It’s a great chance to take a break, explore your city 🏙️, or spend time with your J-1 friends. How are you making the most of the long weekend?
