NSYCC - ACS Northeastern Section Younger Chemists Committee

NSYCC - ACS Northeastern Section Younger Chemists Committee We aim to involve younger chemists in national and local ACS programs in order to help with their transition into a professional career. But never fear!

The Northeastern Young Chemists Committee (NSYCC) supports undergraduate and graduate students, postdocs, and early-career chemists through community, professional development, and scientific exchange in the Northeastern region. The Northeastern Section Younger Chemists Committee (NSYCC) is part of the Northeastern Section of the American Chemical Society (NESACS), a local section whose members in

clude chemists from Eastern Massachusetts and New Hampshire. We are devoted to the professional advancement of younger chemists in industry, government laboratories, undergraduate/graduate school and post-doctoral positions. But Am I A "Younger Chemist"? USUALLY, younger chemists are ACS members under 35. Younger chemists are also people not yet established in their careers. The criterion for being a member of this group is not age, but experience. SO JOIN US!

🌍 Science, culture, and community across the Atlantic.

In March 2026, NSYCC Immediate Past Chair Marcela de Barros, NSYCC Secretary Durgalakshmi Sivasankar, and NSYCC Chair-Elect Bruno Mochi represented NESACS at the 28th JCF Spring Symposium in Cologne, Germany, through the annual NESACS–GDCh German Exchange Program.

The week brought together younger chemists for research presentations, professional networking, leadership discussions, and cultural experiences throughout Cologne.

Highlights included creating custom fragrances during a private chemistry workshop, connecting with JCF leaders, sharing traditional Reibekuchen beside the Rhine, and exploring the city beneath Cologne Cathedral.

"The exchange is much more than a conference or a trip abroadβ€”it is an opportunity to build meaningful relationships with scientists from different backgrounds."

These experiences show how chemistry can connect people across institutions, countries, cultures, and languages. πŸ§ͺ🀝
