Dot Park Car Show Returns Sept. 7

Time to polish up cars or trucks to put them on display in Dorchester Park's Classic Car Show on Sunday, Sept. 7 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Designed by renowned landscape architect Frederick Law Olmsted, the awesome park is the perfect backdrop for fashionable vehicles. The event is free for those displaying and for those admiring the entries.

The show features cars and trucks many visitors will remember from their youth and some that were in use early in the last century. The sound of classic hit tunes adds atmosphere to the display of beautifully restored vehicles and local venders provide refreshments. Students from the Boston School of Music perform an impressive rendition of contemporary and classic music. A cart pulled by Clydesdale horses along the park paths provides visitors with a view of Dorchester's early terrain with towering trees, hills and outcroppings of Dorchester Puddingstone.

Free recycled books will be displayed at ground level for children to choose. Parents with books their children have outgrown may bring them to the car show or leave them on the porch of the big red house at 42 Milton Street anytime before the event.

The car show is organized by the Dorchester Park Association, a volunteer organization responsible for the Spring Egg Hunt, tours of the park and for assisting the park department with the removal of litter and leaves.

The show is free thanks to the support of sponsors who each contribute $300 so hundreds of neighbors can enjoy this popular event. Sponsors will be acknowledged in press releases and on banners posted throughout the area before the show. Checks and logos may be sent to: Friends of Dorchester Park Association; ℅ Rockland Trust; 2250 Dorchester Avenue; Dorchester, MA 02124.

For more information about the car show, contact Carole Mooney at 781-825-5495.
