Introducing adorable little Leon! Leon is a handsome, smart, curious, and affectionate boy who’s almost a year old and ready to find his forever home. With his striking light gray-green eyes and the adorable white diamond marking on his belly, he’s impossible not to fall in love with—especially when he flops onto his back for snuggles.

Leon is outgoing, playful, and full of personality. He greets visitors like the mayor of the house and quickly wins over everyone he meets. Talkative, goofy, and energetic, he thrives in a lively home and would likely do well with respectful children, as well as other cats and/or dogs.

He was previously used to outdoor access, so his ideal home would include safe outdoor enrichment such as harness walks or a catio. Leon loves interactive play, especially chasing his favorite toy: a furry mouse attached to a long stretchy cord. He’s easily entertained with a simple cardboard box featuring peek-through holes.

After playtime, Leon is all about companionship and cuddles, happily curling up beside his favorite person. He’s looking for loving human companions who will appreciate his affectionate, entertaining spirit—and in return, he’ll bring endless love, laughter, and charm to your home.

All of our cats come spayed or neutered, microchipped, and with age-appropriate vaccinations. Young cats have an adoption fee of $175. If you would like to apply to be a forever home for this cat, please fill out a statement of interest at www.alternativehumanesociety.com. Unless otherwise indicated, all our cats and kittens are best suited for indoor-only life.

URGENT FOSTER STILL NEEDED FOR HOPSCOTCH!
Hopscotch is looking for a foster or foster to adopt.
If you are interested in fostering Hopscotch, please go to our website and fill out a foster application.

Meet Hopscotch!

He's the goofiest, funniest guy you ever did meet. Hopscotch is almost 2 years old and 65 lbs.

He loves to run and play with other dogs, loves people, and loves to play with toys. He walks really well on a leash with proper tools, knows all of his basic commands really well, and adores snuggles. He's your best adventure buddy by far! He will run, bike, hike, go for long walks with you and then love to crash on the couch with you. He's crate trained and likes to go in there to sleep off his adventures.

He's the sweetest guy who loves everyone so taking him to the park or sports games will probably make you the most popular person around.

Bonus... he LOVES kids older kids! He's an energetic guy who may inadvertently knock over youngsters so we recommend dog-savvy children 12+ years of age. Making sure he minds his manners around kids is important but he understands really well not to jump on people and that snuggling instead is best for everyone.

He's currently enrolled in a short term board and train program so he's learning all the important things needed to be a very good boy so if you have any questions about his personality, or want to come meet this sweet guy give them a call!

Hopscotch is neutered, microchipped, up to date on shots and ready to meet his forever family. Are you ready to give this loving, energetic, cuddle bug the chance he deserves? Submit an application today at www.alternativehumanesociety.com.

~~THIS IS A COURTESY POST. THIS DOG IS *NOT* IN THE CARE OF THE ALTERNATIVE HUMANE SOCIETY. TO LEARN MORE ABOUT FIG PLEASE REACH OUT TO HER OWNER AT [email protected] THANK YOU~~

Fig (aka Ping, Pingus Amingus, Pig, and Piggle Wiggle) is a 7 year old ~35lb who I believe to be either a shiba or cattle dog mix. That’s right- she’s not a teddy bear. She has been spayed and is not up to date on her shots due to financial hardship and housing stability reasons.

Fig is an affectionate, intelligent, opinionated companion who enjoys cuddles, exploration, and unfortunately for one’s nose..bully sticks. In fact, any type of animal body part treat is right up Fig’s alley but her real treat of choice is scritches on the sides of her neck. If you get juuuust the right spot, she will lean so hard into your hand that she will fall over if you don’t hold her up. She gives amazing “hugs” where she will hold on to you with her paw(s) and rub her head into your chest. The fur behind her ears is so delicate and soft, it’s almost like you can’t even feel it when you pet her there. She has been so hardy and healthy. I could count the number of soft poos she’s had on one hand. She knows sit, down, wait, and scoot. She also knows “ok” as a release word if you make her wait for something. She doesn’t beg for food. In fact, you could leave a plate full of food on your couch, table, or anywhere within reach and she will not eat it; I have tested it. She is decent on a leash. If you tell her to ease up or give a gentle pull on the lead, she will come back. She learns new behaviors and commands quickly. She doesn’t chew belongings or furniture. She doesn’t potty inside or dig holes in the yard. Generally, she is very well behaved.

General behavior is one thing, behavior during anxiety is another. Because of the nature of our unstable living situation over the last few years, I have not been able to socialize Fig properly. She has severe separation anxiety and is fearful of noises she hears outside of the home. She will bark if she hears someone walking by. She will bark if she hears a car door open or close outside. She will bark if she hears someone talking outside or through the walls of an apartment. She is very wary of strangers. For a first time meeting, it’s best to be quiet and almost not pay attention to her.

Fig loves sharing a home with cats if she is able to keep a distance until they get used to one another. In fact, one of her best friends was a cat until about 6 months ago. If she sees a cat outside, it depends on how the cat acts. If it’s still, Fig will look and maybe gently pull to go say hello but will ultimately disengage. If the kitty runs, Fig has a lot of interest in the chase. She has never caught or hurt a small animal because she gives up before she catches anything but she does like to chase small animals outside.

Fig is nervous around other dogs but isn’t aggressive. She will pull a leash to sniff or greet another dog and if the other dog barks, Fig will growl or bark, herself.

Currently, Fig is living with and loving a rambunctious 5 year old child. When Fig met this child, she was not comfortable around him. She growled and barked every time she heard his voice or laughter. The first time Fig met a child, the child escaped supervision and hid. When I found the child and picked him up, he started to kick his feet and yell. Fig started to bark and follow us. The child accidentally kicked Fig a couple of times because she was so close to us and she bit his foot as gentle as a bite can be. Over the next year, the child would return weekly and little by little we were able to let Fig come closer and have more interaction with the child. Now they lay and cuddle together and Fig is very tolerant of any petting, cuddling, running, and laughing.

I would recommend Fig live in an adults only single family home unless you have a lot of time and energy to cope with Fig’s intense anxiety during the integration period if you have a child. I would not recommend her for apartment living unless you wouldn’t get evicted or penalized for excessive barking. When Fig is left alone, she is extra vigilant and will bark at even more things than when you’re present. She likes being outside and would do well in a rural setting where she has a lot of room to occasionally roam. She would do well with a person or couple who likes to participate in outdoor activities if you can manage her reactivity. She is *great* off leash and will come back to you and she makes sure she doesn’t venture too far ahead.

Fig has been my best friend through a lot of turmoil these last few years and I’ve tried my best to cope with her issues and fulfill the needs I could fulfill. I didn’t want to “give up” on her and fail her. Since we have moved into my current apartment, every time I leave, I have to put earmuffs on her that effectively make her deaf so she can’t hear noises when I’m gone so she won’t bark. I sometimes have to put a soft muzzle on her to keep her from barking if there is a continuous source of noise outside. I haven’t been able to afford regular veterinary care for her and I couldn’t afford an emergent event, should one arise. She’s been even more resilient than i could have imagined and has handled all of this as best as she can. I know everyone thinks this about their dog but in this case it’s true. Fig is the best dog in the world..and I realize that she shouldn’t suffer because of my inability to give her the care she needs or for the sake of my pride; She deserves better. She deserves to be accommodated for and catered to instead of being expected to cope with increasingly pressurized situations that she hasn’t been taught to cope with. she deserves to live an easy life. I can’t give her that. Maybe you can. Thank you for your consideration.

🐾 Meet Eddie (aka Eggnog!) 🐾
11 lbs | 9 years young | Neutered | Microchipped | House trained
Eddie is a tiny gentleman with a BIG personality—and one ear that does whatever it wants (we love a trendsetter).
This sweet and silly guy lives for walks, car rides, and treats… especially treats. While he’s proudly independent, he’ll occasionally choose your lap for snuggles and believes all large dog beds—and your couch—belong to him.
💛 Eddie’s Ideal Home:
• Quiet, calm environment
• No other pets
• No children or frequent young visitors
• Someone patient who will let him settle in at his own pace
Eddie has been through a lot, but he’s made incredible progress in foster care and learned how to trust again. He communicates through his behavior, so he’s looking for someone willing to listen, learn, and continue the structure that helps him feel safe.
⚠️ Eddie does have a fear-based bite history, so he needs an experienced, committed adopter who will respect his boundaries and continue his training.
🦴 His Must-Haves:
• Consistency and routine
• Ongoing medical care + special diet
• A safe space (crate)
• A human who will love him for who he is—quirks and all
Eddie isn’t a “perfect” dog—but he’s a special one. And for the right person, he’ll be an incredibly rewarding companion.
✨ Ready to give Eddie the calm, loving home he deserves?

Mira is a one-year-old Tuxedo cat with a personality as bold as his markings. Thanks to his absolute love for his exercise wheel, he has a very slender, athletic build.

Mira is a rambunctious, loving boy who is truly the life of the party. Brimming with energy, he seems to take his life inspiration from Jim Carrey movies, channeling that comedic, high-octane spirit into everything he does. If you call his name, he will gladly "yell" back and forth with you, often following up the conversation by hiding behind a wall to play peek-a-boo. Occasionally, he’ll drift into a "thousand-yard stare," looking completely perplexed by the mysteries of the world around him.

Mira has some gastrointestinal sensitivities that require special care. We have successfully managed these with a specific diet, which will need to be maintained in his new home.

He has a habit of chewing on plastic; while he doesn't seem to swallow it, his adopters should keep an eye on him to keep him safe. Mira is very intelligent and can be very persistent when he sets his mind to get something he wants!

The best home for Mira would be one that is patient and affectionate. While he is a loving boy, his high energy makes him a bit of a handful! He would excel in a home with plenty of enrichment opportunities to keep him occupied and keep his mind sharp. He can be shy around new people and may get spooked and hide initially, so he needs a family that will let him settle in at his own pace. Mira is currently in a household with other cats and does very well with them. He has lived with dogs and children, though watch him closely, as he can become impatient with too much stimulation and may try to scratch. Mira loves to snuggle right next to his person at bedtime, but he’s not a bed hog. Just a very sweet boy.

Buttons is an 8 year old male Tuxedo who is chill and a most affectionate cat of great distinction. His dapper good looks perfectly complement his loving nature, soft chirrups and deep contented purrs. Buttons loves head scratches, brushing sessions and snuggling. Selecting a favorite toy to pounce on is a daily activity of choice.

Buttons would do well in a quiet home where he can fully express his laid back personality. Buttons is used to being the only pet in the home with a quiet senior adult, but may do well with friendly or disinterested other animals. Kittens or busy dogs and small children may overwhelm him.

Buttons is on a weight loss journey for his health, and his adopter must be committed to helping him shed more weight in order for him to live his best life. He is eating a prescription weight management diet and has a recommended feeding plan from his vet that we will share with his adopter.

All of our cats come spayed or neutered, microchipped, and with age-appropriate vaccinations. Senior cats have an adoption fee of $100. If you would like to apply to be a forever home for this cat, please fill out a statement of interest at www.alternativehumanesociety.com. Unless otherwise indicated, all our cats and kittens are best suited for indoor-only life.

🐾 Meet Momo 🐾

At 14 years young and just 10 pounds, Momo is the definition of a gentle old soul. This sweet Jack Russell Terrier mix came to us after her beloved owner passed away, and now she’s searching for someone special to love her through her golden years.

Momo may be a senior, but she still lights up for her favorite ball and enjoys leisurely walks and car rides. Once she feels safe with you, she becomes the ultimate companion — happiest curled up beside you, soaking in affection and quietly keeping you company.

She gets along with calm cats, does well around respectful older children, and prefers a peaceful home where she can relax and feel secure. At her recent vet visit, Momo was described as “bright, alert, and responsive,” with a good heart and healthy lungs. She’s spayed, vaccinated, microchipped, and recently had dental work completed, including extractions.

Like many senior dogs, Momo has a few age-related quirks. She has limited hearing, some vision changes that make nighttime harder unless lights are on, and dermatitis on her belly. She also takes Gabapentin twice a day. But none of that changes what matters most: Momo still has so much love left to give.

What she needs now is simple — a kindhearted person who understands the beauty of caring for an older dog. In return, Momo will love you with her whole heart.

If you think you could give this sweet girl the comfort, patience, and love she deserves, please visit the Alternative Humane Society website and fill out a statement of interest. ❤️

Say hello to Smoky and Bandit!

Smoky and Bandit are great with a quiet or predictable environment. They are fine with kids and a dog if they are respectful or disinterested and calm. They're very afraid of other cats and it causes them some stress. These sensitive souls will need a short time to adjust to a new environment but they are pretty relaxed after a day or two. They come as a package deal and even when one sees the vet they go together in one crate.

Bandit and his bonded brother Smoky have specific tastes in food and treats. Lucky for you we have done all the trouble shooting and found their favorites. From bowls to food to treats and toys, these boys have let us know exactly what they love and what's not going to pass the mustard.

These bonded brothers are looking for someone to cherish them. It can be a house with respectful kids, or a calm single older dog, but cats and chaos are too much for them. They need quiet routine and predictable schedules to be happy.

All of our cats come spayed or neutered, microchipped, and with age-appropriate vaccinations. Young cats have an adoption fee of $175. If you would like to apply to be a forever home for this cat, please fill out a statement of interest at www.alternativehumanesociety.com.
