Checkout one of our new articles recently published, “Psychedelics are no magic pill’: the narrative and embodied dimensions of psychedelic integration in Denmark” by Sidsel Marie!

Sidsel Marie is a PhD-fellow in social anthropology at the University of Bergen with M.Sc. in social anthropology from the University of Copenhagen. Her current research investigates the therapeutic use of iboga/ine across history and current user sites in Europe and Gabon. She is particularly interested in how relational, interactional, and ethical dimensions affect the therapeutic potential of the psychedelic experience. Apart from that, she is a devoted podcaster on Regnfang and Anthropology on Air.

“The article is based on fieldwork conducted during my master studies in the Danish psychedelic milieu. My interest in integration grew as I encountered more and more people whose stories were not reflected in the dominant discourses circulating in the media and who kept on telling me that "psychedelics are no magic pill". Yet, even though everyone talked about the importance of 'integration', there seemed to be little agreement on what it actually consisted of. I decided to try to explore it together with the people I met, through conversations, following them in their daily lives and participating in social activities of the Danish psychedelic scene. During my work, I personally took inspiration in other spiritual traditions, such as Zen Buddhism, where consistent practice is part and parcel of any sustained transformation.”
