Building Industry Association of Whatcom County

Building Industry Association of Whatcom County BIAWC was founded in 1978 and has continued to be a voice for the construction industry in Whatcom County.

The Building Industry Association of Whatcom County (BIAWC) is a private, non-profit trade organization of builders, remodelers and other businesses related to the home building and construction industry. Founded in Bellingham in 1978, BIAWC serves the interests of the industry in governmental affairs, professional development, social and networking opportunities and community service. Our Master

Remodelers® Council focuses on programs of particular interest to those who specialize in remodeling. BIAWC is governed by a Board of Directors elected annually by the membership. Standing committees and specially appointed member groups assist and advise the President and the Board on programs and policy development. A professional staff carries out the day-to-day needs of the Association and its members.

We are so excited about this program!

Bellingham Technical College is launching a new Residential Construction hands-on training program through Continuing Education—developed in direct partnership with local residential builders.

With nearly 20% of the regional construction workforce age 55+, the need for job-ready trades professionals has never been greater. This program prepares students with practical skills like tool operation, site safety, framing basics, trim work, and job-site workflow so they can contribute from day one.

To fully equip the workshop and remove barriers for new learners, BTC is working to raise $25,000 for tools, safety gear, equipment, and materials. This investment strengthens our workforce and supports local employers.

Most older adults want to remain in their homes as they age, but much of our existing housing isn’t designed to support that goal. This free session will walk through what it actually takes to age in place successfully and how to begin preparing now to support your needs over time.

Join us for a free, interactive panel discussion with housing design and elder services experts.

As a result of this session, participants will:

Be able to identify their home’s physical and environmental features that may hinder or help with aging in place

Consider potential future physical, cognitive, or social challenges and how they could be addressed or mitigated

Know what resources are available to support aging in place

This session includes a short presentation, a panel discussion, and time for audience Q&A.
