*** Here's Her Story: "My name is Christina, and I’m raising funds for my family of six. A little about our family…Ten years ago, I was in a car accident that left me blind, and not long after, I found myself divorced, and a single mother of five. With the help of some wonderful people, I was able to leave a dangerous situation, earn a degree, and find work for the first time in 20 years. In the fall of 2024, we were so excited to finally move into our own home. Unfortunately, what we didn’t anticipate was what followed.
Two of my older children experienced medical emergencies a day apart, resulting in extended hospital stays For one and surgery for the other with a long recovery time for both. This caused a significant financial hardship in itself, but then we started to experience issues with the home itself that we did not expect.
While I did have a home inspection, we discovered several major problems within months of moving in, including electrical and plumbing issues. In the short time we have been here, we have had to solve several lighting and heat issues, take out a loan for a new well pump, and most recently, have had a total septic failure.
We were so proud to buy our first home just over a year ago, but now we’re facing a crisis that’s made daily life incredibly difficult. we did not know when we bought the home that the septic system is over 50 years old nor that it was failing. It did pass inspection at the time due to the home being unoccupied for a little while. Within the past couple of months now, both the system and drain field have failed and are unable to be repaired. Because of strict county code changes, it’s highly unlikely we’ll be approved for a new septic system as our property is too small to meet the new guidelines. It may also take up to six months or more to find out about approval, and then we will have to find a way to finance either the system or a holding tank, which is very expensive to maintain.
In the meantime, we need to pay for regular septic pumping just to keep our home livable. Currently, we are having to pump about once every three weeks or so, costing several hundred dollars each time. My oldest children and I work to support our family, but it is just not enough to pay for these added expenses. We currently cannot use major appliances like a dishwasher, or more importantly, we cannot do our laundry at home. This situation has both drained our little resources we had, as well as has a significant impact on daily living. We are unable to wash any laundry and have to seriously limit showering, dishes and even going to the bathroom.
Any support that you can give would be a huge help in just getting us through the next few months until we can figure out what will happen. We do not want to be forced to move if at all possible, but if the situation doesn’t improve, we may be forced to relinquish and lose our home. Please, any donation is very much appreciated! Thank you!"
