Something beautiful now stands on Austin’s historic 4th Street.

Introducing “As Q***r As You Want To Be,” a new City of Austin historical marker honoring the contributions, struggles, resilience, and triumphs of Austin’s LGBTQIA+ community.

For generations, 4th Street has been more than a street. It has been a gathering place, a refuge, a dance floor, a protest ground, a place to find chosen family, and a place where countless people discovered they weren’t alone.

At a time when pieces of our LGBTQ+ visibility are being erased, this monument matters.

You can remove paint. You cannot erase history.

Our community helped build this city. We fought here. We celebrated here. We loved here. We survived here. And generations from now, people walking down 4th Street will be reminded that we were here, we ARE here, and we’re not going anywhere.

Go see it. Read every word. Take a picture. Bring someone younger than you and tell them the stories that came before them.

Because q***r history is Austin history. 🌈

🏳️‍🌈✨ MEET YOUR 2026 AUSTIN PRIDE NON-BINARY GRAND MARSHAL: MAXOCHITL CORTEZ! ✨🏳️‍🌈

Austin Pride is proud to honor Maxochitl Cortez maxochitlcortez as our 2026 Non-Binary Grand Marshal! 🎉

Maxochitl is a Two-Spirit poet, educator, and community organizer who uses storytelling as a pathway toward collective liberation. Their work centers social justice, Indigenous rights, grief, healing, and the power of community. Their writing has been featured in several publications, with their debut poetry collection forthcoming.

Maxochitl’s advocacy is rooted in a vision of liberation that leaves no one behind. They believe collective liberation requires an end to borders and police brutality, Land Back to Indigenous communities, and a free Palestine.

Through poetry, education, organizing, and unapologetic advocacy, Maxochitl reminds us that Pride has always been about more than celebration—it is about visibility, resistance, community, and the freedom to exist fully and authentically.

We are incredibly proud to have Maxochitl leading the way with us as a 2026 Austin Pride Grand Marshal. 🌈✊🏽

🏳️‍🌈 MEET YOUR 2026 AUSTIN PRIDE ALLY GRAND MARSHAL — TRACIE AUSTIN! 🏳️‍⚧️✨

Austin Pride is incredibly proud to announce Tracie Austin as our 2026 Ally Grand Marshal! 🎉

Tracie is the COO and a founding member of Alma Recovery Center, a founding member of RFATX, and the founder of Trans Sober Living — the first transgender sober living home in Central Texas. She later expanded that mission into ATX Recovery Living, creating an inclusive and affirming recovery community where LGBTQ+ individuals can heal while being fully and unapologetically themselves.

As a longtime member of both the LGBTQ+ and recovery communities, Tracie has dedicated herself to creating spaces where people feel safe, seen, supported, and free to live authentically — without judgment.

For Tracie, Pride is about courage. Chosen family. Community. And, perhaps most importantly, the responsibility we all share to make the path a little safer for the people coming behind us.

That is what allyship looks like: not simply standing beside our community, but showing up, doing the work, creating change, and helping others find a place where they belong.

Austin Pride is incredibly proud to announce Kelly Kline as our 2026 Female-Identified Grand Marshal! 👑💖

A trailblazing Latina transgender woman, Kelly Kline is a certified professional regional makeup artist, drag performer, philanthropist, and fierce LGBTQ+ advocate whose impact on Austin’s community spans decades.

Originally from Mexico City and raised in Brownsville, Texas, Kelly began her transition right here in Austin. Since then, she has dedicated her life to empowering others, breaking down barriers, and using her artistry, visibility, and voice to create space for those who follow.

Kelly has been a passionate champion for HIV/STI awareness, transgender healthcare, and LGBTQ+ rights, and helped with the opening of Texas’ first Kind Clinic. Her commitment to service and advocacy has earned her national and local recognition, including being named to the POZ 100 and receiving the 2021 Lifetime Achievement Philanthropy Award from the United Court of Austin.

But awards only tell part of Kelly’s story.

Her legacy lives in the countless people she has encouraged, supported, mentored, entertained, and fought for. She has spent years showing Austin what it means to live authentically, give back unapologetically, and use your platform to make life better for someone else.

Kelly continues to fight for a future free from HIV, bullying, discrimination, and barriers to healthcare—a future where every member of our community has the freedom to live proudly and authentically.

Kelly, thank you for everything you have given to Austin and to our LGBTQ+ community. We are beyond proud to have you lead us as our 2026 Female-Identified Grand Marshal. 👑🏳️‍⚧️🏳️‍🌈

Introducing……your 2026 Male Identified GRAND MARSHAL! Garry Brown GARRY BROWN!! Having grown up amongst diverse communities in New Orleans, Southern Louisiana, and the Rio Grande Valley, Garry Brown has lived in Austin for most of his adult life. He has tried moving away 3 different times, but each time was short, and he always came back.
Politics has been a life-long interest, along with college and NFL football and all Longhorn sports and has worked on various Democratic campaigns- in Colorado, Iowa, and Central Texas- since 1992. He also spent a year working at the Human Rights Campaign in DC as a regional field organizer overseeing the Western United States plus Texas and Arkansas.
Locally, Garry has served as a Congressional Aide to U.S. Representative Lloyd Doggett and as Assistant Director of the Travis County Democratic Party. His calling led him to a career in county government, first as Chief of Staff for Travis County Commissioner Karen Huber, then as public outreach director for Travis County Constable Sally Hernandez before she became Sheriff, and now as Executive Assistant to Williamson County Commissioner Terry Cook.
He worked with Travis County Commissioner Brigid Shea to bring up and pass the first Travis County resolution honoring Austin Pride.
Currently serving on the City of Austin LGBTQ Quality of Life Advisory Commission, previously, Garry served on the city’s Early Childhood Council, and then the Human Rights Commission for 8 years, eventually leading that as its Chair in his final year of service.
From his dream of and through to its dedication ceremony, Garry championed Austin’s first historical marker honoring the LGBTQ community at 4th and Colorado Streets, helping to preserve the legacy of Austin’s historic q***r district for future generations.
In August of 2026, in honor of Garry’s work on behalf of the q***r community and the larger Austin community, Mayor Kirk Watson designated August 8, 2026, as Garry Brown Day.
