🦆🌴 Rotary Fellowship, Service, and a Whole Lot of Ducks! 🌴🦆

This past weekend, DG Steve Ivory had the pleasure of visiting Rotary District 6990’s District Conference at beautiful Hawks Cay Resort in the Florida Keys, hosted by his friend and fellow District Governor, Pete Pecci.

From duck-themed activities, major donor cocktail hour, friendly competitions to outstanding fellowship and learning opportunities, this conference was a wonderful reminder of what makes Rotary so special. One of the highlights was joining Rotarians from across the district for an early morning End Polio Now walk on the breathtaking Keys. The energy, commitment, and passion for our mission were truly inspiring. DG Steve was super impressed with the participation of iguanas so big they could almost carry you away!!

Due to some last-minute speaker changes, DG Steve was honored to step in as one of the speakers at the Million Dollar Dinner Foundation Gala following Zone 34 Foundation Chair Jeanette “J Lo” Loftus. What an incredible evening! District 6990 raised more than $1 million in a single night to support The Rotary Foundation and the life-changing work it makes possible around the world. This is an amazing achievement and a testament to the generosity of Rotarians.

Most of all, he enjoyed spending time with Rotarians throughout the conference, learning how District 6990 continues to excel in membership, service, foundation giving, and fellowship. Every district has something to teach us, and I came home with new ideas, new friendships, and renewed inspiration.

Thank you, DG Pete Pecci, your leadership team, and the entire District 6990 family for your warm hospitality. It was a fantastic conference, and D9000 is grateful for the opportunity to support a fellow governor and celebrate the incredible impact Rotary continues to make.

What does it take to become a leader in Rotary?

At last week’s Women in Rotary event hosted by the Rotary Club of Atlanta Southern Crescent, attendees were inspired by three remarkable leaders: PDG Claudia Mertl, DGE Cynthia Edwards, and DGND Amy Benton.

Each shared a unique journey to leadership. Claudia joined Rotary in 1991, shortly after women were first admitted to Rotary, and spoke about the challenges she faced as a woman Rotarian around the world. Cynthia's path was shaped through her leadership as a corporate executive, while Amy shared how she was tapped on the shoulder to step into leadership less than six months after joining Rotary.

Despite their different backgrounds—business owner, corporate executive, educator, and coach—their message was remarkably consistent:
✅ Be curious.
✅ Ask questions.
✅ Learn continuously.
✅ And when opportunities arise, say YES.

All three emphasized that Rotary gives back what you put into it. The more you engage, serve, learn, and lead, the greater the impact you can make—not only in Rotary, but in your community and profession as well.

Thank you to these outstanding women for sharing their experiences, wisdom, and encouragement with the next generation of Rotary leaders.

DG Steve Ivory is checking in from the Florida Keys — where he's representing District 6900 as a guest speaker at a neighboring district's conference.

While he's there, he's got important reminders for all of us: RI President Francesco Arezzo visits Peachtree City on June 22, RYLA needs chaperones for June 6–10 in Americus, and the Sheffield Awards are also on June 6.

Head to rotary6900.org to register and get details.

District Governor Steve Ivory had a full and inspiring day revisiting two outstanding Rotary clubs making a tremendous impact in District 6900!

The morning began with a visit to the Rotary Club of East Cobb breakfast meeting. In keeping with this year’s Service Heroes theme, DG Steve was honored to present Service Hero coins to six dedicated firefighters — including the club’s Firefighter of the Year — in recognition of their courage and commitment to serving the community. 🚒👏

DG Steve thanked President Liz Myers, AG Butch Carter (a club member)and the club for their outstanding support of PolioPlus, strong community engagement, and continued commitment to making a positive impact throughout the community and beyond. (AG Lisa Gelber was not able to attend today).

DG Steve then visited the Rotary Club of Vinings Cumberland for lunch and congratulated President Joseph Stockman and the club on an amazing year of achievement. The club was recognized as the District 6900 Club of the Year Runner-Up and also earned honors for Best Category 2 International Service Project and outstanding Per Capita Giving. 🌍💙

DG Steve also congratulated Past President Shawn Bendig on receiving the Rising Star Award for her exceptional leadership and service to Rotary. He thanked AG Ardy Bastien for 3 years of service too.

Throughout both visits, DG Steve expressed his appreciation to both clubs for their incredible support, service, generosity, and lasting impact on their communities and Rotary’s mission around the world. District 6900 continues to shine because of dedicated Rotarians like these! Both clubs are gearing up for their annual fundraisers now .

What an outstanding visit back to the Rotary Club of Buckhead yesterday! District Governor Steve Ivory had the honor of revisiting the club, led by President Shelley Hammell, for an action-packed and inspiring meeting focused on leadership, service, and youth engagement.

DG Steve congratulated the club on an exceptional Rotary year, including earning the Governor Citation and recognition for best Public Image engagement. President Shelley was also presented with a well-deserved Rising Star Leadership Award for her outstanding leadership and energy throughout the year.

The meeting also celebrated Rotary’s impact through membership and Foundation giving, as DG Steve assisted with a new member (Jonathan Blalock) induction , helped recognize several Paul Harris Fellows (Mark Meltzer) and assisted with the Red Badge program ceremony of Molly Guenther and Dirk Ledford.

Youth Services was front and center as the club highlighted a powerful Laws of Life introduction by Chair Carol Gray Walker and essay by winner Lydia and heard a heartfelt farewell presentation from their outbound Youth Exchange student Leo before their upcoming journey abroad. RYE Chair Bob McDonald was present to see Leo’s presentation too. These moments are a reminder of how Rotary continues to shape future leaders and build international understanding.

To top off the meeting, the club welcomed the Georgia Department of Transportation Commissioner Russell McMurry, who shared valuable insights on transportation initiatives and the future of infrastructure across Georgia.

Thank you to the Rotary Club of Buckhead for your hospitality, leadership, and continued commitment to “Unite for Good!” 👏🔵🟡
