Georgia could receive a 90% federal match for Medicaid expansion, bringing back $9 in federal funding for every $1 the state spends.

Instead, thousands of Georgians remain caught in the coverage gap—without affordable health coverage and often without access to mental health care.

Our latest blog, "The Cost of Going Without: Georgia's Coverage Gap Is a Mental Health Issue," examines the connection between health coverage and mental health and why closing the gap could change lives.

“Progress is not always measured by what moves forward. Sometimes it is measured by what we protect.” — Laura Colbert, Executive Director

In 2025, Georgians for a Healthy Future worked alongside communities across our state to protect access to health coverage, elevate the voices of Georgians, and advance policies that support healthier futures for all.

Because of our supporters and partners, we:
âś” Reached 8,000+ Georgians with trusted health coverage information
âś” Helped 125 households enroll in coverage
âś” Connected 924 constituents with state leaders
âś” Amplified the stories and experiences that drive change

This report reflects what we accomplished together—and the work that continues ahead.

Georgia ranks near the bottom nationally for mental health care access — and hundreds of thousands of Georgians are still locked out of coverage and care.

📉 Georgia ranks:
• 37th in overall mental health care
• 47th in adult mental health care quality
• 46th in access to mental health care

The coverage gap is making Georgia’s mental health crisis worse. Closing the gap would help more Georgians get access to therapy, treatment, medications, and lifesaving care.

Georgians deserve better.

The Cost of Going Without: Georgia’s Coverage Gap Is a Mental Health Issue

Every May, Mental Health Awareness Month invites us to talk openly about mental health. But for hundreds of thousands of Georgians without health insurance, awareness is not the barrier. Access is. https://buff.ly/08r02hX

Georgia’s coverage gap leaves hundreds of thousands uninsured and unable to access mental health care. Learn how Medicaid expansion could improve treatment access, reduce crises, and save lives across Georgia.

Today, we honor the lives of those who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our country. 🇺🇸

As we remember their bravery, we also recommit to advocating for the health and well-being of all veterans and military families. Access to quality health care is one of the most meaningful ways we can honor their service.

Let’s ensure every Georgian—including those who’ve served—can access the care they deserve.
