June is Men’s Mental Health Awareness Month.

Men often face stigma when it comes to asking for help—but mental health matters just as much as physical health. In Georgia, insurance plans (including Medicaid) are required to cover mental health the same as physical health thanks to the Mental Health Parity Act.

Georgia has a choice: continue leaving people without coverage, or invest in healthier communities by expanding Medicaid.

Too many Georgians are uninsured, rural hospitals are struggling to stay open, and billions in federal funding are being left on the table. Meanwhile, Georgia remains one of only a handful of states that has not fully expanded Medicaid.

Medicaid expansion would help more people access affordable health care, strengthen rural health systems, support local economies, and reduce barriers to care across our state.

Georgia could receive a 90% federal match for Medicaid expansion, bringing back $9 in federal funding for every $1 the state spends.

Instead, thousands of Georgians remain caught in the coverage gap—without affordable health coverage and often without access to mental health care.
