Join Hillside, Inc. and Georgia Humanities for an in-person panel discussion about The Loneliness Epidemic on Friday, June 5th from 8:30-9:30 am.

Across the country, more children and adolescents are reporting feelings of loneliness, disconnection, and a lack of belonging. Loneliness is not simply about being alone. It is the experience of not feeling seen, understood, or connected, even when others are present.

At the same time, caregivers, especially those supporting adolescents with mental health challenges, often experience their own form of loneliness, feeling overwhelmed, isolated, or unsure where to turn for support.

What this panel will discuss:
💙 What is driving the rise in loneliness among children, adolescents, and society at large
💙 How loneliness shows up in young people, including its connection to shame, withdrawal, and isolation
💙 The often-overlooked loneliness experienced by caregivers
💙 Practical, DBT-informed strategies to help young people build connections and tolerate social discomfort
💙 How caregivers can respond in ways that strengthen relationships while staying supported themselves

Join us for a thoughtful and practical conversation focused on connection, understanding, and the shared human need to feel seen and valued.

The Georgia Humanities Board of Directors is pleased to announce Jen Welborn as Interim President!

Jen steps into this leadership role at an exciting time for our organization as we continue expanding programs that connect Georgians through history, culture, education, and civic engagement.

This spring, we’ve celebrated:

• 494 students competing at National History Day Georgia
• The launch of the Smithsonian’s “Voices and Votes: Democracy in America” Georgia tour
• The debut of the Georgia Circuit Speakers Bureau

We’re grateful for the communities, educators, volunteers, and partners who make this work possible throughout the state.

Georgia Humanities joins our fellow Georgians in mourning the loss of Ted Turner, one of the state’s most consequential figures.

As the New Georgia Encyclopedia notes: “In the last three decades of the twentieth century, Ted Turner transformed himself into a modern-day icon whose work made a significant impact nationally and in the city of Atlanta. Known variously as a media titan, cable-TV pioneer, father of the Goodwill Games, owner of a World Series champion, skipper of a yacht that won the America’s Cup, feature film producer, and restaurateur, Turner began by parlaying an overextended billboard company and a low-power television station into a communications giant.”
