Being new is hard.
Especially when you walk into a room where it feels like everyone already knows everyone.
They’re catching up, laughing, talking about practice, calling each other by their derby names, and you’re standing there trying to figure out where you fit in.
Now add roller skates.
You’re trying to remember which way you’re supposed to go, how to stop without falling, what all these new words mean, and about 14 new people’s names at the same time.
Meanwhile, the people around you are doing things that look impossible.
They know the drills. They know the rules. They know each other. They have their teammates, their friends, their inside jokes, their routines, and their place in the room.
And then there’s you.
Trying to find your way. Trying to learn new skills. Trying to meet new people. Trying to figure out how to be part of something that already feels like it has its own little world.
It can be intimidating.
And honestly, it’s easy to feel like you’re the only one who doesn’t belong yet.
But you’re not.
Every experienced skater was new once.
Every person who looks completely comfortable on skates had to learn how to stand up, how to fall, how to stop, how to take up space, and how to do things that felt completely unnatural at first.
That’s why we created Back to Basics Boot Camp.
A space where you’re supposed to be new.
A space where asking questions is encouraged. Where we slow things down, break skills apart, practice the basics, and build from the ground up.
You don’t have to walk in already knowing how to be a roller derby skater.
You don’t have to have friends here.
You don’t have to know what you’re doing.
You just have to show up.
Come learn. Come stumble. Come laugh. Come try again.
Maybe you’ll learn a skill you didn’t think you could do. Maybe you’ll make a friend. Maybe you’ll finally figure out that thing you’ve been struggling with.
And maybe, somewhere along the way, this place that once felt unfamiliar starts to feel like yours.
Because eventually, you won’t be the new person anymore.
You’ll be the one laughing with someone who just walked through the door.
You’ll be the one showing them where to stand.
You’ll be the one saying, “Don’t worry. We were all new once.”
That’s what we’re building here.
Not just better skaters.
A place where people can come in, find their people, and feel like they belong.
Come be new with us. 🛼♡
