We also learned a little about Rockability and Fieldstone Farm Therapeutic Riding Center. Last week, AmeriCorps Seniors RSVP celebrated our annual Volunteer Recognition Event, and what a wonderful day it was! This year, we gathered at the Akron Children's Museum, where watching our incredible volunteers explore, play, and enjoy all the museum has to offer brought so much joy to the day.

We were also treated to live saxophone music from one of our very own volunteers, Patrick Munford, who welcomed guests with his incredible talent as they arrived! We wrapped up the celebration with a special storytelling experience led by Ebony Hill of The Akron Griot Project.

It was a day filled with laughter, music, connection, and appreciation for the amazing individuals who give their time and talents to make our communities stronger. We are so grateful for each and every one of our volunteers and everything they do!

A special thank you to the Akron Children's Museum, Patrick, and Ebony for your sharing your space, talents, and dedication to our mission.

Thank you to one of our wonderful RSVP Volunteers, Ellen, for helping us at today’s Wadsworth Older Adults Foundation. We’re here for the Stars, Stripes, and Senior Wellness Expo at the SOPREMA Senior Center! Always a pleasure seeing all the vendors dressed up and we LOVE talking to the attendees!

Liz England with the KAZ Company alongside the Akron Art Museum always throws an absolutely fantastic Senior Day! Thank you to all of our volunteers for assisting as greeters, distributors of the 5th Year Anniversary cookies, photo booth attendants, floaters, and for bringing such a positive and joyous attitude to the event. And, of course, thank you to Liz for being such a wonderful partner and advocate of Vantage Aging and all that we do through our AmeriCorps Seniors Retired and Senior Volunteer Program. Another one in the books! Can't wait for next year!

Wow wow wow wow WOW!!!!!!!!! Today's Geauga Family YMCA Senior Health & Wellness Fair has been ONE OF THE BEST events we’ve attended all year! 💙

Our table has been absolutely jam-packed with older adults interested in learning more about our Retired and Senior Volunteer Program and finding meaningful ways to give back to their communities.

It has been incredible sharing our mission and seeing just how much enthusiasm there is among older adults who want to make a difference in Geauga County! We are feeling SO grateful for a day filled with great conversations and new connections!

They’re looking for passionate volunteers to support their mission and make a difference in our community. There are several ways to get involved, including:

👟 Walk to End Alzheimer’s Volunteers! Join the team at the 2026 Akron Walk to End Alzheimer’s on Saturday, October 10 at Lock 3! Volunteers are needed to help support the event. (Learn more in the attached flyer.)

📚 Community Educators! Help spread awareness by sharing information and educational resources about Alzheimer’s and dementia with community groups and organizations.

🤝 Community Representatives! Represent the Alzheimer’s Association at community events and outreach opportunities, helping connect people with resources, information, and support.

Interested in becoming a Vantage Aging AmeriCorps Seniors RSVP volunteer? You must be 55+ and live in or be willing to volunteer in Summit, Medina, Wayne, or Geauga County. There is no cost to join.

Today at the Wayne County Veterans Service Commission Resource Fair, Senior RSVP Manager, Tessa, ran into a volunteer who is assisting at another booth! Carol, an avid volunteer with Green Good Neighbors, is representing Blue Star Mothers. Blue Star Mothers is a national non-profit veteran service organization made up of mothers, stepmothers, grandmothers, foster mothers, and female legal guardians who have children serving in the U.S. military or who are veterans. Today, Carol is distributing Girl Scout Cookies and jerky to the veterans in attendance. We often see so many of our partner stations at events but today it was incredibly cool to be serving alongside a volunteer. Way to go, Carol!

The Akron-Canton Regional Foodbank has a new opportunity to assist in their resource room! If you want to help with food insecurity but aren’t so sure about sorting or delivering, this would be the perfect opportunity for you. Volunteers will:

1️⃣Assist neighbors with locating and accessing food, resources, and services available through the pantry and Resource Center.
2️⃣Provide friendly, welcoming support to neighbors by answering questions, offering directions, and helping them navigate the pantry and available resources.
3️⃣Support pantry staff and volunteers with general resource room operations, including maintaining an organized, clean, and welcoming environment.

Volunteers will help create a welcoming and supportive pantry experience while making it easier for neighbors to access food and connect with additional resources. Volunteers may interact with individuals and families of varying ages, backgrounds, and needs and should approach each interaction with respect, compassion, and a neighbor-centered mindset. By providing individualized assistance and helping neighbors navigate the pantry and Resource Center, the volunteer will allow staff to focus on overall pantry operations while increasing the level of support available to neighbors. This position requires the ability to stand and walk for short periods, move throughout the pantry and Resource Center. Additionally, comfort using technology such as laptops is encouraged.
