Now through November 30, hike or bike four specified sections of the Ohio & Erie Canal Towpath Trail to earn a commemorative pin in collaboration with The Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company!

Members of our staff attended the 12th annual Reach Higher Breakfast of the Akron Metropolitan Housing Authority this morning to celebrate 12 years of incredible community engagement and support services provided to the Summit Lake community via their Reach Opportunity Center.

This week we're hosting the Reimagining the Civic Commons Summit: A Model for Rebuilding America with the City of Akron, OH in the incredible, reimagined Summit Lake and Lock 3 parks with nine cities (120+ people) within the network.

We're reflecting on an entire decade of trust-building with neighborhood residents and revitalization of our public parks across three miles of the Ohio & Erie Canal Towpath Trail in Akron.

Bike 🚴 Hike 🥾 Brew! 🍺 Join us in Zoar on Saturday, October 10 to enjoy the picturesque fall season with a 6 or 12-mile bike ride on the Ohio & Erie Canal Towpath Trail or 1.5-mile hike on the Wetland Trail. Then, enjoy a family-friendly Oktoberfest lunch at the historic Canal Tavern of Zoar with German favorites and live music!

For participants 21+, partake in some b**r tasting during lunch and fill up your commemorative pilsner glass with your favorite! 🍻We're featuring Lockport Brewery, The Pilot Brewhouse, Unfused Brew Hall and Hoodletown Brewing Company! Root b**r floats will also be available 🥤

There are many ways to enjoy Summit Lake NorthShore Park, a City of Akron park near the center of the Ohio & Erie Canalway National Heritage Area and 101-mile Towpath Trail.

The park offers several amenities—launch your own kayak, canoe or fishing boat; relax on the lakeside seating; cast a reel from two accessible fishing piers; borrow a bike (for free!) to ride the Summit Lake Trail loop; gather with friends and family under the Knight Pavilion or picnic shelters—the opportunities to connect with nature and take in the picturesque views are endless.

This past weekend, community members came together to bicycle 101 miles along the from Cleveland to New Philadelphia in the Huntington Towpath Century Ride 🚴 Some completed the journey in a single day, while others opted for a two-day ride and they were all smiles despite the rain drops 💦

Through fundraising efforts and generous contributions, our participants and corporate supporters collectively raised over $114,000 so far! We are deeply grateful for the generosity and dedication of our community—and there's still time to support the cause.

Consider joining our Century Riders in supporting the development of the remaining 9 miles of the Towpath Trail by contributing to the campaign at p2p.onecause.com/towpathcenturyride by September 30. Since its inception in 2010, the Huntington Towpath Century Ride has generated over $1.9 million, supporting the creation of 14 miles of this vital regional resource!
