This Men's Health Week, let's talk about how IC/BPS affects the whole person, not just the bladder. Research shows that 60% of men with IC/BPS report sexual dysfunction, and men with chronic pelvic pain are more than 3x as likely to have a mental health diagnosis compared to those without. Men's pain is real, and it deserves a multidisciplinary approach that addresses physical, emotional, and sexual well-being. You are not alone. 💙

Men's Health Week reminder: bladder pain isn't just a prostate issue. In men with IC/BPS, pain increases as the bladder fills and improves after voiding, a key feature that distinguishes it from other conditions. Men may also feel pain in the lower belly, between the legs, or in the sc***um. They may wake up at night, not because their bladder feels full, but because of pain. If this sounds familiar, talk to your doctor. Knowledge is power. 💙

This Men's Health Week, we're shining a light on a condition too many men suffer from in silence. IC/BPS has traditionally been considered a "woman's disease," but research tells a different story. Studies estimate that over 2 million men in the U.S. may be living with IC/BPS, and up to 48% of men with the condition were previously misdiagnosed with prostatitis. Men deserve accurate diagnoses and effective treatment. 💙

In the June episode of The Connected Journey: Life with IC, host Laura Santurri speaks with Megahnn Freeman, a certified nursing assistant and parent whose IC symptoms began at just seven years old. For eleven years, Megahnn's pain was repeatedly dismissed or misdiagnosed as recurrent UTIs, despite consistently negative tests, until she self-advocated her way to a urologist at age 18 and finally received an IC diagnosis. The road to proper treatment was far from smooth, including a traumatic awake cystoscopy with hydrodistension that her current provider later apologized for. Megahnn shares how finding the right doctor in Alabama changed everything, leading to a care plan that included pelvic floor therapy and cystoscopy with hydrodistension under full anesthesia, the intervention that has brought her the most significant relief. She also opens up about navigating chronic pain through her teenage years, the unique challenges of parenting with IC during postpartum periods, and the critical role her support system has played throughout her journey. Megahnn closes with heartfelt advice for both medical providers and parents of children with unexplained urinary symptoms: don't stop looking for answers, and don't wait to see a urologist.
