Feline Number Nine is our newest volunteer station! Feline Number Nine is a foster based non-profit focusing on alleviating suffering in areas of disparity in the rescue community. They prioritize outreach in the form of education, TNR, rehabilitation, and media production.

They have several openings for volunteers to get involved, such as assisting with cat transportation, morning shift boxes, and being part of the cleaning crew! This is such a cool rescue that is growing from the ground up. If you LOVE cats, this is for you, and if you love helping organizations grow and thrive, this is also for you!

Steve B., one of our Blood Transportation volunteers with the American Red Cross of Northern Ohio, felt compelled to share his volunteer journey!

RSVP Manager, Tessa, connected Steve with the Red Cross last March. After learning about a variety of volunteer opportunities there, he signed up to become a biomedical transportation specialist.

The Red Cross supplies about 40% of our nation’s blood supply. Donors give life-saving blood at Red Cross sites. In NE Ohio, that blood gets transported to the Red Cross’s lab in Cleveland for testing and processing, and is then delivered to local hospitals.

The job of transporting the blood is done by volunteers, in Red Cross vehicles. (The Red Cross also employs contractors to fill holes in the schedule. It needs more volunteer drivers!)

After completing some training online and riding along with a couple experienced drivers, Steve began working shifts in April. Steve said, “I really enjoy it. I pick shifts that work with my schedule. I enjoy getting out and interacting with people at the Red Cross sites and the hospitals. It’s an important program and I’m proud to support it.”

Volunteers must have a valid state driver’s license and proof of insurance, a clean driving record, and the ability to lift up to 45 pounds. They are asked to work two to four shifts per month (generally four to six hours per shift). If you’re interested in learning more, please contact Tessa at (330) 618-2955 or [email protected].
