The final day of Congress is off to a strong start with Lyndsey Curtis-Dawson from our Northumberland, Tyne and Wear Branch proposing an important emergency resolution to call on governments to fully include nursing staff and their professional representatives in all future pandemic planning 💪

Well done to Rachael Ridley for her emotional contribution to this afternoon’s debate on palliative and end-of-life care. The resolution called on RCN Council to lobby UK governments to ensure everyone living across all four nations has access to specialist palliative and end of life care.

“We know the risks – verbal abuse, physical aggression, unsafe or a volatile environment” face many lone workers.

Andrew Mather, Vice Chair of the Health and Safety Reps Committee and Chair of the Northumberland, Tyne and Wear branch moved an important resolution calling for standards to help protect the many nursing staff who work alone in the community and elsewhere.

RCN analysis shows around 500,000 under-18s visited A&E in a mental health crisis since 2019, with some facing waits as long as three days before being transferred to a mental health unit. Nursing staff believe children and young people with mental illness are being “unforgivably failed”.
