RCN analysis shows around 500,000 under-18s visited A&E in a mental health crisis since 2019, with some facing waits as long as three days before being transferred to a mental health unit. Nursing staff believe children and young people with mental illness are being “unforgivably failed”.

Follow the Congress debate on Acute mental health crisis services from 10.30am this morning, Wednesday 20 May.

Around half a million children and young people in England have turned to emergency departments for support since 2019
