Children's Health Scotland

Children's Health Scotland Supporting the health/wellbeing of children & young people & their right to the best possible health.

The health and wellbeing of children and young people lies at the heart of the work of Children’s Health Scotland, and we believe that every child has the right to the best possible health. We seek to empower children and young people with knowledge and life-long skills that can help influence their health and wellbeing whilst shaping their future life chances. We’re the only charity dedicated to

informing, promoting, and campaigning on behalf of the needs and rights of all children and young people with health conditions. We work directly with children and young people and those who love and care for them through our three main services: ‘Children and Young People Health and Wellbeing Services, ‘Care Experience Services for Children and Young People’, and ‘Children and Young People Health Rights Services’. 🚫 A blanket social media ban won’t protect children and we agree with Children and Young People's Commissioner Scotland.
Children are clear: they want to be safe and connected.
For many—especially those with health conditions—online spaces are a lifeline for friendship, learning and support.
Bans don’t reflect reality. They risk:
📉 Pushing activity out of sight
📉 Increasing isolation
📉 Ignoring children’s voices
💥 The issue isn’t children being online—it’s unsafe online environments.
Responsibility must sit with platforms, not children.
We stand with the Children and Young People’s Commissioner Scotland in calling for a rights-based approach.
👉 We are calling on the UK Government and The Scottish Government to listen to children and young people.
Because protection without participation is not protection. Read our full response here: https://www.childrenshealthscotland.org/supportingcypcssocialmedia/

Children's Health Scotland supports Children and Young People's Commissioner Scotland in their statement. We are saying . We are worried that many children with health conditions will be facing isolation and not being able to access vital areas of support. Which is something we highlight in the our response to growing up in the online world. We listened to the voices of our families and . We are disappointed in UK Government has announced it's intention to still enforce this ban after many charities and orgs like ours have expressed our worries over how this will affect children and young people.

The Children's Commissioner reacts to a proposed social media ban for under-16s, and says it will not make them safer online.
