📣 Have you received mental health support or services while caring for someone?

Carers Trust Scotland is looking to hear from unpaid carers across Scotland about their experiences of accessing mental health support and services.

The research will help identify barriers, strengths and ways to make support more accessible and effective for carers.

We're particularly keen to hear from carers whose voices are often underrepresented, including rural carers, older and younger adult carers, male carers, disabled carers and carers from minoritised ethnic communities.

MECOPP engages with Edinburgh Community Cohesion Forum

MECOPP's National Policy & Research Lead, James Calder, attended the Community Cohesion Forum, set up by Edinburgh Council after the recent rise in racist violence in the city.

There were difficult conversations but it was heartening to see lived experience informing the debate.

We were also pleased to see the Minister for Equalities Simita Kumar MSP, Council Leader Jane Meagher and other local politicians such as Cllr Alys Mumford.

MECOPP were delighted to be part of the Marketplace at the Scottish Young Carers Festival this week!

It was a fantastic opportunity to meet so many inspiring young carers and connect with organisations from across Scotland. Thank you to everyone who stopped by our stall to chat with us and learn more about our work supporting minority ethnic carers and communities.

Pleased to have had a productive meeting with Maree Todd MSP, Public Health Scotland and colleagues to discuss , including access to healthcare, and the importance of delivering culturally appropriate, person centred care for communities . It was encouraging to hear the Scottish Government’s commitment to continue engaging with communities and working together to improve services.

We were delighted to participate in a series of workshops hosted by the Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh. The project facilitated sessions to nurture connections to plants and nature in different ways, and the participants were able to explore their relationships with nature through poems and short stories.

Thanks to funding from the Scottish Government's Gambling Levy, we have established our new Better Wellbeing Service, designed to address gambling harms, improve wellbeing, and strengthen support for Gypsy/Traveller individuals, families and communities.

We are now seeking individuals from the Gypsy/Traveller community to act as local community connectors and champions. Community Workers will raise awareness of gambling harms, support community members to access services, promote wellbeing and help ensure community voices are heard. Applicants must be members of the Gypsy/Traveller community as this post is subject to a Genuine Occupational Requirement.

MECOPP staff Charise and James were delighted to meet with representatives from The Highland Council , including Councillor Sammy Cameron and the local housing team, to discuss Gypsy/Traveller accommodation issues in Lochaber. The conversation was constructive and we are hoping to look at ways to ensure the voice of the Gypsy/Traveller community can be heard with the Council.
