MECOPP meets with Jenni Minto MSP about supporting Argyll and Bute Gypsy/Traveller community

MECOPP were pleased to meet with Jenni Minto, MSP for Argyll and Bute, to discuss issues at the Dunchologan and Bayview sites in her constituency.

We discussed our recent environmental rights work as well as Ms Minto’s work engaging with the community. Jenni Minto has continued to work to support with residents over some time now and we are pleased she is still committed to doing so, particularly given some of the issues we have found at both sites.

We look forward to continue working with Jenni Minto MSP to support Argyll and Bute’s Gypsy/Traveller community.

MECOPP joins Cross Party Group for unpaid carers

MECOPP were delighted to join the reconstituted Cross Party Group for unpaid carers and attend the initial meeting at Holyrood. The meeting allowed us the opportunity to organise the group and plan the agenda ahead for the next few months, including working around supporting the right to breaks for carers. We look forward to future meetings and hope this will be an opportunity to support the rights for minority ethnic unpaid carers across Scotland.

Meeting with Emma Roddick MSP

James from MECOPP met with Emma Roddick MSP to discuss issues faced by the Gypsy/Traveller community both in her constituency in the Highlands and across Scotland. We are delighted to continue collaborating with Emma who has continued to be a champion for equalities issues including those for minority ethnic carers as a MSP.

MECOPP attends Marie Curie Scottish Parliament Reception

Anna Marta and James from MECOPP were delighted to attend the Marie Curie reception at the Scottish Parliament. We heard powerful stories demonstrating the importance of palliative care for both those approaching the end of life as well as for their family and carers. We have previously worked with Marie Curie on research, and we fully back their calls for a right to palliative care in Scotland.

MECOPP were delighted to launch alongside the Environmental Rights Centre for Scotland (ERCS) our paper on Environmental Rights at Gypsy/Traveller Sites. We enjoyed discussions with key stakeholders to look at how we can ensure that the environmental rights of those living on Gypsy/Traveller sites are understood and upheld.

MECOPP was delighted to launch our most recent paper on Gypsy/Traveller accommodation issues, Environmental Rights at Gypsy/Traveller Sites, at Norton Park Conference Centre.

The Scottish Government Digital Wellbeing Survey

The Scottish Government wants to hear about the experiences of families using apps, social media, games and the online world.
They’re inviting children and young people aged 11–25, as well as parents and carers of children aged 0–18, to complete the Digital Wellbeing Survey.

Your views will help shape practical advice, support and a public information campaign focused on online harms—and on keeping children and young people safe and healthy online.

MECOPP attends Scotland’s unpaid carers: Stories of Care Event

MECOPP were delighted to attend at this year’s Curious Festival an event on the stories of unpaid carers. Our board member Jillian Brannan and National Policy and Research Lead James Calder attended the event. There were many powerful stories of unpaid carers from across Scotland at the event, and we were able to participate in a workshop afterwards to discuss solutions to the issues that unpaid carers face.
