☕️A wonderful family afternoon of smiles, food and fun 💛

As part of our family support programme, we were delighted to welcome some of our families to an annual tea party at Riding House Café in Bloomsbury. ✨

With delicious food, arts and crafts, face painting, a scavenger hunt and silent disco, there was something for everyone to enjoy! 🎨🫧🎶

Events like these provide a special opportunity for families with seriously ill children to come together, relax and have fun in a safe environment. And they are only possible thanks to the amazing support of our partners, donors and volunteers.

A huge thank you to the team at Riding House Cafés for their ongoing support and making us so welcome. Also, to our volunteers, Jack and Jonny from our corporate partner WillU Group for volunteering their time. ✨

🎸✨ A little music can go a long way! 💛🎤

Every month our entertainers bring fun, music and magic to children receiving treatment at Addenbrooke’s Hospital in Cambridge. Last month, Sar delighted young patients with songs and bubbles, lifting moods and generally spreading smiles and happiness at every step🎶🫧

Addenbrooke’s Hospital is one of Spread a Smile’s 39 NHS hospital and 6 hospice partners. Find out more about our work via the website spreadasmile.org

Why is support from Trusts & Foundations so important for charities like Spread a Smile? 🤝

For us, they are a vital source of funding which enables targeted service provision, innovation and long-term planning.

Recently we received a 12-month grant from The National Lottery Community Fund, to help fund Spread a Smile’s virtual music groups for seriously ill children. The grant will help ensure that the sessions remain a constant for some of the most isolated children who are unable to attend school or see friends due to serious illness, immunocompromised conditions, or hospital stays.

We are extremely grateful to The National Lottery Community Fund and every single Trust and Foundation that have supported our work over the years

If you know of a Trust or Foundation that can support Spread a Smile, we’d love to hear from you. Please email Kuljeet de Souza at [email protected] to find out more and help us fulfil our plans of extending our support to all 28 specialist children’s hospitals in England by 2035.

“Every two weeks she enjoys a piano lesson with Andy and we can really see a difference in her – music seems to reduce her anxieties and build her confidence and subsequently her resilience. I don’t have the words to express our gratitude to Spread a Smile. When other services and our safety nets were removed, they have continued to offer the most amazing support. Thank you.” Roop, Ajooni’s mum

Our entertainers regularly visit young patients at the hospital, bringing music, magic and plenty of smiles to as many children and young people as possible.

On this visit, Visit Manager Becca brought the music, while Mr Magic himself worked his magic! 🎩✨

At Spread a Smile, our aim is to provide seriously ill children with moments of fun, distraction and happiness.

Meet the incredible entertainers spreading smiles across the North West. 💛

Every Spread a Smile hospital visit is different, made unique by our brilliant entertainers who do everything they can to respond to the needs of each child they meet.

Our North West team is led by Visit Manager Amy and includes 6 other entertainers from magicians to artists and musicians. Whether they are visiting children at their bedsides, painting radiotherapy masks or beautiful murals, or running arts and crafts sessions, their work plays a huge part in helping to distract young patients from what they are going through in hospital.

As Justine Louise Makin, Play Service Manager at Alder Hey Children’s NHS Foundation Trust, said,

“Being in hospital is difficult at any time, therefore receiving the amazing toys, activities, materials and equipment that Spread a Smile provide, has really put a smile on the children’s faces and helped toward recovery, recuperation and rehabilitation.”
