🎈 Happy International Day of Play! 🎈

On June 11, we celebrated the power of play and the important role it plays for the children we support. 💛

Play is at the heart of everything we do at Spread a Smile. Every day, our entertainers - from magicians, and musicians, to therapy dogs, fairies and poets - support Play Teams across our NHS hospital partners to provide opportunities for play, fun and laughter for seriously ill children and young people.

For children facing long hospital stays, play provides comfort, boosts wellbeing and helps to create a sense of normality during difficult times. It's why our work is so important.

To mark this special day, our entertainers Posey, Leanne and Mitra joined the fantastic Play Team at St Mary's Hospital for a fun-filled day of stories, songs, games, laughter and imaginative play, helping to bring moments of joy and connection to seriously children across the wards.

💛 More smiles for children and families at Oxford Children’s Hospital (John Radcliffe site)💛

We’re thrilled to be expanding our services across the children’s wards at Oxford Children’s Hospital, thanks to the support from Oxford Hospitals Charity.

By doubling our in-person entertainer visits, we’ll be able to reach even more seriously ill children and young people with moments of joy, laughter and connection during their time in hospital ✨

A huge thank you to Oxford Hospitals Charity, the hospital play team and everyone helping make this possible.

💛 Our first ever in-person visit to Wales 💛

Last week, we were delighted to make our first in-person visit to Wrexham Maelor Hospital, marking an exciting milestone in the delivery of our services beyond England.

Spread a Smile has been supporting the hospital since 2021 delivering virtual entertainer visits every fortnight to seriously ill children across the wards.

Joined by our Chief Executive, Lucy Jackson, our magicians and singing fairy spent time on the wards and in the playroom, bringing laughter, stories and magical moments directly to children and their families. 💫

We were also delighted to welcome Andrew Ranger MP, and Members of the Senedd, Ken Skates MS, Sam Rowlands MS, Cristiana Emsley MS and Nigel Williams MS, to see first-hand the difference Spread a Smile makes to children and young people in hospital. It was a very special visit and we are so grateful to everyone for joining us.

A huge thank you to the brilliant team at Wrexham Maelor Hospital for making us feel so welcome.

We were delighted to support a special Eid party at Newham Hospital at the end of May for children and young people on the ward along with returning patients. 🤩

Spread a Smile’s Sophie and Louise were kept very busy with requests for face painting and balloons and there was so much fun to be had with music, dancing, games and more. 🎈👩‍🎨

Today, as part of Volunteers’ Week, we’re celebrating our amazing corporate volunteers who give up their time for Spread a Smile 💙✨

Our volunteers play a meaningful and impactful role in helping us deliver some of our family support initiatives. Last year, 430 incredible volunteers helped us create 2,000 festive Smile Hampers 🎁, and 150 joined us for our annual Summer Party ☀️🎪, manning stalls and helping to make the day a huge success.

Volunteering with Spread a Smile is hugely rewarding for everyone involved, and as a charity, we simply couldn’t deliver these services without our volunteers. Thank you to every single one of our amazing volunteers for being – well – amazing! 🌟👏
