We haven't forgotten you Tom! 😭

In 2022, we celebrated the real super foods in your kitchen, those everyday ‘cupboard heroes’ that will ensure your diet is packed with nutrients, vitamins and above all – taste. Ingredients such as lentils, tinned vegetables and tinned fish are much more versatile than you might think!

That was the theme of our annual Cancer Prevention Action Week. This year's is closer than you think...

Alcohol increases your risk of cancer—and it can be high in calories too. Extra weight also raises your cancer risk. ⚠️

Hello, my name is Alice.

Cancer has been part of my life for as long as I can remember. My mum died when I was four years old, and I've lost three grandparents and my uncle too.

Hospitals were never unfamiliar places to me. They became part of home.

Working as an NHS nurse is my way of giving back. I support patients through some of their hardest days, inspired by everything my family and my sister have been through 💙

This year, I ran the London Marathon for World Cancer Research Fund because prevention matters. No-one should have to face cancer if it can be stopped.

"Does HRT increase your risk of cancer?" It's a question a lot of women weigh up around menopause.

The honest answer: it can, slightly. HRT may slightly raise the risk of some cancers, but the increase is generally small and for many women, the benefits far outweigh the risks.

It's a personal decision. Your risk depends on the type of HRT, how long you use it and your own health history, so it's worth talking through with your doctor. And the reassuring part? After stopping HRT, the risk gets smaller over time.

“When my mum passed away, Tony and his family showed kindness and true friendship.”

This week, we’re reintroducing you to James, who is fundraising in memory of his loved ones whose lives were tragically cut short by cancer.

Throughout his life, James has lost his nan, mum, aunt Mary and step-mum Lyn to cancer. Most recently, this has also included James’ family friend, Tony.

Tony's son, Matthew, is manager of the Tesco store where James held many of his fundraising events – from which he has raised over £15,000 and counting for our vital research 🔬

Away from his role in the community, Tony was a beloved husband to Christine, father to Clare, Matt and Christopher and grandfather to Olive, Jonty, Juniper and Ettie.

In James’ hometown of Buckingham, Tony was known as “Mr Football.” For over 35 years, he dedicated himself to bringing football to the local community ⚽

When James needed someone to talk to, Tony was always there to lend an ear and support James through the loss of his mum.

Devastatingly, in 2024, Tony was diagnosed with prostate cancer. He faced his illness with extraordinary courage, strength and spirit. Through every challenge, he remained an inspiration to those around him before sadly passing away in 2026.

James and Tony’s story is a powerful reminder of why research is so important. It helps find cancer earlier, improves treatments and gives people more time with the ones they love 💙

By funding vital cancer prevention research, we make this a reality.

If, like James, you want to support life-changing research in memory of a loved one, why not sign up to one of our exciting events or challenges? 🪂
