Existing in the online world for many girls means being bombarded with online misogyny, sexism and abuse.

Recent reports show that a ban, or partial ban, on social media for children is imminent, but a blanket ban could result in social media companies escaping pressure to make safe design a baseline condition of their services.

More needs to be done to protect girls online because these harms don’t stay on the screen – they spill into everyday life, affecting girls’ mental health, sense of belonging and the way they see themselves.

Social media companies must take responsibility so girls can have the creative, joyful and affirming online world they deserve.

Don’t leave girls’ rights hanging!

The world may be getting far too comfortable with inequality. Thinking things are ‘good enough’ for girls. Watching rollbacks on reproductive rights and the spread of misogynist movements without blinking.

We’re not.

Because while others are rolling back girls’ rights, we’re rolling up our sleeves – in over 80 countries.
