Our Ambassadors travelled to Windermere for a week of learning, exploration and team-building, reflecting on the story of the Windermere Children, young Holocaust survivors who came to the Lake District after the Second World War.

Our Ambassadors were honoured to meet Holocaust survivor and Anne Frank Trust Honorary Patron Arek Hersh MBE at Windermere Library Westmorland and Furness Council. Arek shared his remarkable life story, reflecting on his experiences during the Holocaust and his journey to the Lake District.

Today, we commemorate the life and legacy of Otto Frank on the anniversary of his death.

As the only member of his family to survive the Holocaust, Otto played an instrumental role in publishing Anne Frank's diary and establishing the Anne Frank House.

After the war, Otto devoted his life to inspire others to challenge prejudice and discrimination, while ensuring that Anne's story would never be forgotten.

Today, we honour his dedication to preserving Anne’s legacy and promoting tolerance, understanding and respect.

On this day in 1942, Anne Frank wrote about the arrival of the van Pels family in the Secret Annex. To conceal their identities, she referred to them in her diary as the van Daans. Anne reflected on how quickly they had grown close as they began life in hiding, where they would remain together for more than two years.

Hermann, Auguste and Peter van Pels were arrested on 4th August 1944 alongside the Frank family and Fritz Pfeffer after their hiding place was discovered. The van Pels family were all killed by the N***s because they were Jewish.

By continuing to share Anne’s story, we ensure her voice lives on and reaffirm our commitment to challenging antisemitism and all forms of prejudice.

Our statement on the Community Security Trust (CST) Antisemitic Incidents Report January-June 2026, from Dan Green, Chief Executive:

“The findings of CST's Antisemitic Incidents Report for January-June 2026 are a sobering reminder that antisemitism remains a persistent and deeply damaging presence in our society. 1,926 antisemitic incidents across the UK were recorded, with a record 178 incidents affecting schools, pupils and staff, up 59% on the same period last year.

Behind every statistic is a person, family or community impacted by this hatred. The rise in antisemitic incidents involving young people is particularly alarming. Schools should be places where every child feels safe, respected and able to learn.

Antisemitism does not begin with violence. It begins with prejudice, misinformation and the dehumanisation of others. The Holocaust stands as a stark reminder of where unchecked hatred can lead.

At the Anne Frank Trust UK, we see every day that education can help empower young people to recognise and challenge antisemitism and all forms of prejudice.

These latest findings reinforce the urgent need to equip young people with the knowledge, empathy and confidence to stand up to antisemitism whenever they encounter it.”

Happy birthday to Anne Frank Trust Honorary Patron, Robert Slager!

Today is Robert's 83rd birthday.

Born in Amsterdam, he survived the Holocaust as a hidden child. Before he was even born, his father had already been deported to Auschwitz, making Robert's story of survival and the way he continues to share his experiences an inspiration to those around him.

On this day in 1944, Anne Frank wrote the final entry in her diary.

Just three days later, Anne and the seven other people hiding in the Secret Annex were discovered and arrested by the N***s. Deported to Auschwitz and later Bergen-Belsen, Anne was ultimately murdered by the N***s at the age of 15 because she was Jewish.

By continuing to share Anne’s story, we ensure her voice lives on and reaffirm our commitment to challenging antisemitism, prejudice and hatred in all their forms.

Our statement on the terror attack at Berlin Pride, from Dan Green, Chief Executive:

“We are shocked and deeply saddened by the horrific terror attack on Berlin Pride, which German authorities believe was an act of Islamist extremism.

Our thoughts are with those who were killed and injured, their loved ones, and the wider LGBTQ+ community in Berlin and beyond. An attack on people gathered to celebrate identity, belonging and equality is an attack on the values of dignity, freedom and inclusion that underpin open and democratic societies.

No one should have to live in fear because of who they are, who they love, or the communities to which they belong. Extremism in all its forms seeks to divide people and undermine our shared humanity. It is important that we do not allow it to fuel prejudice against any community.

At the Anne Frank Trust UK, we stand in solidarity with the LGBTQ+ community and with all those affected by this act of terrorism. Now more than ever, we must support young people to challenge prejudice and extremism, resist hatred, and become active upstanders for a more inclusive society.”
