Our statement on the Government's decision to restrict social media access for under 16s from Dan Green, Chief Executive.

Full statement:

"We recognise the Government’s decision to restrict social media access for under-16s in response to growing evidence about the impact of online spaces on young people. Digital environments can expose young people to hate, misinformation and harmful content at speed and scale, with antisemitic and other prejudiced narratives increasingly embedded in everyday online interactions.

While regulation is an important step, it cannot address this challenge alone. Young people will continue to encounter harmful online content and must be equipped with the skills to navigate it safely. Media literacy, critical thinking and the ability to recognise and challenge misinformation are essential.

Our work shows that when young people are supported to understand how prejudice manifests itself and are equipped with the critical thinking and media literacy skills to identify and challenge misinformation, they are more confident to act as upstanders and challenge harmful narratives among their peers.

For this policy to succeed, education must sit alongside regulation."

Today would have been Anne Frank’s 97th birthday.

On her 13th birthday, Anne was given the diary that would come to share her voice with the world. In it, she wrote about her life, her friends, her family, and her hopes for the future. When her family went into hiding, she took that diary with her, creating a powerful testament to resilience and humanity.

We remember Anne as a young Jewish girl whose life was taken by the N***s, yet whose voice continues to have a profound impact and connect with people across generations.

Her experience during the Holocaust drives our commitment to challenge antisemitism and all forms of prejudice, and to build a more inclusive society.

Our statement on the recent unrest in Belfast from Dan Green, Chief Executive.

Full statement:

"We are deeply concerned by the recent unrest in Belfast.

The initial attack that sparked these events was highly disturbing, and our thoughts are with Stephen Ogilvie, his family, and all those directly affected. There can be no justification for the violence and disorder that has followed, particularly where individuals and communities are being targeted because of who they are, the colour of their skin, or where they come from.

Reports of homes being attacked, families being forced to flee, and people feeling unsafe in their own communities are exceptionally troubling and must be unequivocally condemned. What we are seeing is how quickly fear, misinformation and division can escalate into harm.

At the Anne Frank Trust, we believe education is essential to building understanding, empathy and resilience against prejudice. We stand in solidarity with those affected and reaffirm our commitment to building a society where no one is targeted for who they are."
