Today's is a little different.

We wanted to share Manju's story.

Five people from Manju's family were caught in the floods which devastated Nepal last week. That includes her son, three grandchildren, and her elder sister. Her house is gone; the land itself is now part of the river. The rice stored inside, the five pigs she kept, the jewellery in her closet, the mattress, the blanket, all of it went with the water. "I don’t even have an inch of land to my name anymore," she says.

Manju received an emergency shelter kit, distributed by Habitat for Humanity Nepal. "It is a relief, it's support. Otherwise, there would be nothing."

One week on from the flash floods that have devastated communities in Nepal, thousands remain missing and it’s estimated that more than 10,000 households urgently need emergency shelter.

Habitat for Humanity Nepal delivered the first emergency shelter kits in Rasuwa district on 30th August and will continue to work with local authorities and partners to deliver aid quickly and effectively.

For many people in the affected regions, a long road back to recovery is now beginning. Besides the loss of their homes, they are suffering from destroyed infrastructure, disrupted supply routes, and the far-reaching consequences of the disaster for their communities.

Rapid emergency aid, targeted support during the early recovery phase, and sustainable reconstruction can help affected people regain security, stability, and new hope for the future. Just £100/€116 could fund an emergency shelter kit.

to the team from Gilnahirk Presbyterian Church & St Colmcille's Parish, who have now returned from supporting Habitat's work in Romania.

Thank you for everything you have contributed to Habitat’s mission, including raising funds for the most vulnerable and working hard onsite.

Read the beautiful poem about the experience, written by one of the team members:

Across the miles, with hearts as one,
We build beneath the Father's sun.
With loving hands and faith we share,
A home, a hope, an answered prayer.

Stone by stone, and hand in hand,
Together we build on distant land.
Not one alone, but side by side,
In partnership, love and grace abide.

May every home our hands create,
Be filled with peace, with hope, with faith.
A living sign that love can grow,
When we build together, hearts aglow.

You don't have to volunteer to make an impact. Support the work that goes on every day in countries like Romania by making a donation to Habitat today.

Your donation will open the door to opportunity, safety and a better future for some of the most vulnerable families: www.habitatireland.org/donate

Since the flash floods caused destruction in Nepal on 26th August, more than 50,000 people have been impacted and more than 900 have died.

Habitat Nepal is closely assessing the situation and coordinating with partners and government to identify urgent needs, in order to reach those most in need. Starting with immediate shelter kits, technical assessments, and transitional shelters through to building climate resilient homes over the long-term there is much to be done and we need your support.
