As parents of Saichon and Emily, it’s fair to say that both Viv and I shed more than tear when Mayor Amanda told us our daughters were pictured on the promotional graphics and t-shirt for her Carnival Parade. Proud doesn’t quite cut it - seen and understood - 100% YES!!! The carnival parade really made it possible to celebrate all that SEN families can struggle with on a day to day basis. The easier it is to get out in our community, to go to events, be seen, show off our unique talents, be spoken to even if we can’t speak back, be accepted, be understood - well - that goes a long way to making life a whole lot more ‘normal’. Our SEN young people deserve to be pictured in books, appear on billboards, seen on tv, heard on podcasts and allowed to be champions. Change IS coming. That’s why walked with - as Lisburn truly is a city that sees everyone whilst our government sadly does not.
