Lisburn & Castlereagh City Council has launched a new grant fund to help local groups install publicly accessible defibrillators.

The fund is open to constituted sports clubs and community or voluntary organisations based in the Lisburn & Castlereagh area.

Eligible clubs and groups can apply for up to £2,500. The grant can help pay for a defibrillator and an external cabinet. It can also cover costs associated with installation and associated power supply.

It also supports defibrillator training, helping to increase the number of appropriately trained individuals in local communities and improving confidence to act until emergency services arrive.

Speaking at the launch, Councillor Sharon Lowry, Chair of the Communities and Wellbeing Committee, said: “Cardiac arrest can happen to anyone, at any time and every minute matters. Many sports clubs and community organisations face financial challenges when purchasing AED equipment and this grant will help remove some of those barriers.

I would encourage all eligible sports clubs and organisations across the Lisburn & Castlereagh area to take advantage of this important funding opportunity.”

We’re now accepting applications to become a Volunteer Community First Responder with the Mid Down & Lisburn District CFR Scheme.

We are only interviewing for the following areas at this time:
👉 Dunmurry
👉 Poleglass
👉 Lagmore
👉 Saintfield
👉 Carryduff
👉 Moira
👉 Dollingstown
👉 Aghalee

Please note — only applications from these areas will be considered.
All applications received will be reviewed, and if successful, you’ll be invited to attend an interview as part of the selection process.

Before applying, please take time to consider whether you can commit the time required to serve your community effectively.

Mid Down & Lisburn District Community First Responders attended 31 alerts this month support patients within our area. We attended 14 Category 1 alerts and 17 Category 2 alerts. We operate as a charity and get no support from the NHS, our responders are all volunteers.
