organises and hosts the annual Great Yorkshire Show and Countryside Live, which both take place on the Great Yorkshire Showground, Harrogate. Our newest show is Springtime Live which takes place during the Easter holidays. The Yorkshire Agricultural Society is a registered charity and member organisation – with around 11,000 members who help to support the Society’s work. The Society’s offices are based at the Award winning Regional Agricultural Centre, in Harrogate, which comprises offices and ‘Fodder’ (regional food shop and cafe).

FREE Soil Doctor bookings are open now! Across all 4 days at the Great Yorkshire Show in the Agri Innovation Village (grid ref D7, next to the Machinery Demo Ring).

This is open to all farmers, whether you're arable or grassland. All you need to do is bring along a small block of soil about the size of a coffee cup dug from 0-10cm deep (or a bit deeper if you're worried about compaction).

It’s a great chance to learn what healthy soil looks like, spot key soil indicators, and have a proper chat about soil health on your own farm.

Simply bring your soil sample on the morning and come back later in the day once analysed for discussion. Please make sure to put your soil in a plastic bag or container and add a label saying how the field has been managed.

Thank you to the teams from University of Leeds and The University of Sheffield supporting this opportunity, delivered by our Farmer Scientist Network 🤝

A visit to Game & Wildlife Conservation Trust (GWCT)'s Allerton Project on Monday was a really insightful look at how different practical solutions can deliver more resilient and sustainable outcomes in practice on farm.

The opportunity, delivered by the Farmer Scientist Network with funding support from Anglo American, provided useful key take aways. Holly Jones, Network Coordinator for FSN, shares her insights from the visit in our latest web blog post here:

Particular thanks to Kerry Buchanan and Lorna Paterson who joined us from Anglo American, as well as Joe Stanley who hosted us so generously (and provided a delicious lunch!). Pictured L > R alongside Holly Jones on the first image. And a grateful shout out to Hannah Clarke of Frontier Agriculture for joining us to talk herbal leys and all things seed mixes in the afternoon.

⚡ We now generate more than half of all our own electricity at the Great Yorkshire Showground, after switching on 1,536 new solar panels this week.

A new 990.72-Kilowatt peak (kWp) solar system offsets 44 per cent of the Society’s annual imported electricity - this is in addition to the gains already made by 1,940 solar panels installed at the Showground.

The new scheme - installed by Bramham-based Local Renewable Services - significantly enhances the Society’s carbon footprint, saving an estimated 190 tonnes of carbon dioxide per year.

Goodall Agri-Development pathway module 5 ✅

Our learners have spent a brilliant day at Molescroft Farm Estate on the outskirts of Beverley today looking at sustainable farming practices and exploring diversification strategies. It's been great to talk about business management and innovations to consider as additional income streams for farm businesses. We covered everything from secure dog walking fields to a children's nursery, the wonderful Molescroft Farm Children's Nursery. Thank you Tamara & Camilla!

We're grateful to Davina Fillingham for joining our 2026 Cohort this afternoon and providing a hugely informative talk on considerations when looking to diversify, such as planning applications and community projects on farm.

🌱 applications to join the 2027 Goodall Pathway are open now: https://bit.ly/4fsfSbZ
