WELCOME NOVEMBER…

There is something about November that says ‘keep going’.
We are not quite through the year, yet the finish-line looms.
We are plunged into darkness by Mother Nature.
We are faced with the ‘season of joy’,
and yet many of us wonder where we will find it.

And I think November is a great time to take a little peek behind you,
and see just how much you’ve done.
To take stock of your achievements, your endurance, your survival.
To rest and reinforce, before the festivities envelope us all.
Before beautiful new beginnings.

And most importantly, November is a time to seek out light.
As the natural order darkens, we must find it ourselves.
We must do whatever we can to brighten our day, our home, the world.

Seek out light wherever you can, my friends,
and pay no heed to those who condemn your sparkle.

You are much-needed.

Keep showing up in that special way only you can do.
And show up for yourself, too
(which can sometimes mean not showing up at all).

This year has been hard.
Again.
But beautiful.
Again.

As is the way of life.

As is the way of life.

16 DAYS OF ACTIVISM AGAINST GENDER-BASED VIOLENCE 2026

25 November - 10 December | Derby

2026 THEME: UNiTE TO END VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN AND GIRLS

Ensure justice, protect survivors, end impunity.

The 2026 international campaign calls on us to UNiTE to End Violence Against Women and Girls by ensuring justice, protecting survivors and ending impunity.

Violence against women and girls does not always leave bruises. It exists in our relationships, workplaces, communities and institutions, in everyday misogyny, inequality and the silences we are expected to keep.

Ensuring justice means challenging the attitudes, systems and failures that allow violence to continue. It means ensuring that survivors are believed, supported and protected, while perpetrators are held accountable and impunity is ended.

How do we ensure justice? What does meaningful protection look like? And what happens when women come together to challenge violence and impunity?

For 16 years, Vox Feminarum: Women’s Voices has been bringing women together in Derby to mark the international 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence campaign.

This year, we continue that commitment with a programme of conversations, creativity, resistance, reflection, rest and collective action.

Not just awareness. Not just words. An opportunity to challenge, connect and make change happen.

A TASTER OF WHAT’S IN STORE!

* STOP! GRASSROOTS GATHERING, Saturday 28 November | 10.30am - 4.30pm
Not your usual conference! A day of honest conversations, challenging ideas, creativity, collective strength and a little time for yourself.
Featuring Women Against the Far Right, challenging misogyny, division and hate; Reclaiming Our Joy, music, gentle movement and mindfulness; Find Your Voice, creative expression and voice activation; and our R&R Wellbeing Station, offering hand and Shiatsu foot massages. Bring clean socks for the foot massage!
STOP! is a women-only gathering, welcoming all women, including trans women.
* WORKSHOP: WHAT MY MOTHER TAUGHT ME. WHAT I WANT MY DAUGHTER TO KNOW.
What did the women before us teach us about love, strength, silence, survival and being a woman? Which lessons do we treasure, question or refuse to pass on? Explore the messages we inherit, the expectations we challenge and what we want future generations to know.
* MORE THAN A SEAT AT THE TABLE, OVER BRUNCH
Who gets heard? Who makes the decisions? And why settle for a seat at the table when women need real influence? Join us over brunch for good food and lively conversation about women’s voices, power, representation and making change happen.
* HEALING WORDS: THE POETRY OF AUDRE LORDE
Can poetry challenge injustice, break silences and help us reclaim our power? Explore the words of Audre Lorde, poet, feminist and activist, and how poetry gives voice to anger, courage, identity and resistance.
* AND THERE’S MORE!
Films, creative activities, online conversations, a Quiet Day, HELD, a restorative women’s Red Tent gathering, and grassroots campaigning.
Different experiences and ways to participate, united by our determination to end violence against women and girls, ensure justice, protect survivors and end impunity.

THERE’S SOMETHING FOR EVERY WOMAN!

Come to speak, listen, question, learn, create, move, laugh, rest or simply connect.

You don’t need to be an activist, an expert or have a personal story to share. Just come as you are.

BRING A FRIEND. SPREAD THE WORD. BE PART OF SOMETHING THAT MATTERS.

Because ending violence isn’t just about what we say, it’s about what we do.

We're back in the ND Women's Living Room this Friday 23rd October from 6.30pm with complimentary hot and cold drinks, snacks and jigsaws, useful books, colouring and fidget/sensory gear.

Our optional craft activity this week is Autumn and Winter paper chain/garland making to take away and brighten up homes, work or communal spaces. Please feel free to BYO crafty projects to start or continue too 🧶

We've been asked to create a group Christmas tree for the local St John the Evangelist, Derby Christmas Tree festival on 5th/6th December and will be making decorations for a small-ish tree in our November's meetups. We have a proposed theme of 'Wintering' represented by items or tasks/quests that help us stay well and comfy over the colder and sometimes quieter season as autistic and neurodivergent women ❄

All of our group activities resources and refreshments are provided free of charge but we do appreciate small donations and have a collection tin in the kitchen area.

If you'd like to ask any questions about the Living Room or are thinking of coming for the first time and would like to know more to plan your visit, feel free to send us a DM or email at [email protected]
