Foster for East Midlands Councils

Foster for East Midlands Councils Together, let's shape a brighter future for every child. Derby, Derbyshire, Nottingham and Nottinghamshire Councils need you. Join us.

Foster for East Midlands represents local authority foster care across Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire. From March 2024, we are joining together for the first time to recruit more foster carers and improve your journey and the outcomes for the children you care for. We're offering prospective foster carers increased levels of support through the creation of a regionalised recruitment hub. We've com

mitted to sharing resources and knowledge to make the journey of becoming a foster carer work better for you. This will include enhanced support from our team of social workers, recruitment officers and experienced foster carers. Applicants will also be supported to access a bespoke training package so that you are ready and prepared for your new role. Fostering for us means you are helping children in your local area. As a non-profit organisation, we aim to place children with our own foster carers before contacting other agencies. All of our foster carers receive an exceptional benefits, support and training package.

How are young people helped by Supported Lodgings?

For many, the transition into adulthood can feel overwhelming, especially without a strong support network.

Supported Lodgings helps provide stability and guidance for young people who may be:

βœ” Leaving care
βœ” Experiencing family breakdown
βœ” At risk of homelessness
βœ” New to the UK as unaccompanied asylum-seeking children

By opening their homes, supported lodgings hosts can provide not only accommodation, but encouragement, routine, and a sense of belonging during an important stage of life.

🌈 This Pride Month, we are celebrating the invaluable contribution LGBTQ+ foster carers make across Foster for East Midlands Councils while encouraging more people to consider whether fostering could be right for them.

There is no such thing as a β€œtypical” foster carer – what matters is the ability to offer care, stability and support. Fostering is about helping children feel understood, valued and able to be themselves.

Come and meet our fostering recruitment team at these upcoming Pride events and find out more about making a difference through fostering:

🌟 Carers Week 2026, 8–14 June
Building Carer Friendly Communities

This Carers Week, Foster for East Midlands Councils recognises the incredible commitment of our foster carers across the region πŸ’™

Foster carers provide safe, stable and nurturing homes for children and young people in care, while many also support others in their everyday lives, including family members, friends, and neighbours who rely on extra help. Caring can take many forms, and all of it makes a real difference.

Carers Week is a time to recognise, support and thank all unpaid carers, raise awareness of the challenges they may face, and highlight the support available across our communities.

Meet Isabella, a Foster Carer πŸ’›

Isabella shares her experience of fostering and support care, mainly with babies and young children, and the incredible moments when a child begins to feel safe enough to move from survival mode into connection, trust, and thriving.

She also talks about the importance of attachment, and why forming strong, secure relationships is a vital part of helping children feel safe, valued, and understood.

πŸŽ‰ What a busy and inspiring Foster Care Fortnight 2026! πŸŽ‰

Over the past few weeks, we’ve enjoyed a fantastic programme of activities, events and celebrations across the East Midlands. From foster carer gatherings and family fun days to information events and community activities, it’s been wonderful to come together, share experiences and celebrate fostering.

A huge thank you to all our foster carers who joined us throughout the fortnight. Your support, dedication and commitment to local children and young people are at the heart of everything we do, and it was great to have the opportunity to recognise and celebrate the difference you make every day.
