Short Breaks Care provides respite for foster families. This allows them to rest, focus on wellbeing, and maintain family relationships knowing their child is safe and supported.

💙 A letter to my future self: “The boys we foster see us as part of their family.”

Ben Harris and his husband, Chris, from Nottinghamshire, became respite foster carers in April through Foster for East Midlands Councils. In this heartfelt letter to his future self, Ben reflects on their fostering journey so far and shares his hope that their fostering adventure will continue to bring them joy while supporting even more children and young people.

Last week, Katie Jones, Team Manager, proudly represented Foster for East Midlands Councils at the official launch of the new national fostering recruitment campaign at 10 Downing Street.

The event brought together the Education Secretary Lucy Powell MP, Minister for Children and Families Josh MacAlister MP, foster carers and care-experienced people from across the country to highlight the ambition of creating 10,000 more foster places.

Backed by £88 million of investment, the campaign will help recruit more foster carers, enhance support for existing carers and make fostering more accessible for those considering making a difference in a child's life. Together, we can help ensure more children and young people have the safe, stable and loving homes they deserve.

🖤 Why are Black foster carers so important for Black children in care?

As part of Black History Month, we're sharing a powerful message from Audrey Taylor, Service Manager for Fostering and Adoption at Nottingham City Council, about the importance of representation in fostering.

Having foster carers who understand a child's culture, heritage and identity can help children feel understood, supported and connected to who they are. These shared experiences can make a lasting difference as children and young people navigate their journey in care.

Foster for East Midlands Councils welcomes foster carers from all backgrounds, but we know there is a particular need for more Black foster carers to support Black children and young people across our region.
