Volunteer Opportunities at Safe and Sound 🙌💙

We're looking for some extra helping hands to support our work with children, young people and families across Derbyshire.

✅ Volunteer Handy Person: Help with odd jobs and general maintenance across our two Derby premises. Your practical skills will help us keep our spaces safe, welcoming and well maintained.

✅ Volunteer Data Input Support: Are you organised and detail-oriented? We're looking for someone to assist with data input and administrative tasks. This flexible role can be carried out from home, making it ideal for fitting around other commitments.

Both roles offer a fantastic opportunity to support a local charity and make a real difference behind the scenes.

📩 Interested? We'd love to hear from you! Contact: [email protected]

A huge thank you to Amanda Strong as she steps down from her role as a Safe and Sound Ambassador after seven years of dedicated support! 💙

Last week, our CEO Tracy Harrison met with Amanda for lunch to thank her for the incredible contribution she has made to the charity over the years.

Throughout her time as an ambassador, Amanda has been a passionate advocate for Safe and Sound, helping us raise awareness of child exploitation, championing our work within the community and supporting our growth as demand for our services has continued to increase. She has also played an important role in helping us raise vital funds to support children, young people and families across Derbyshire.

Amanda's commitment, encouragement and support have been greatly appreciated, and we are incredibly grateful for everything she has done for Safe and Sound.

From everyone at Safe and Sound, thank you Amanda, and we wish you all the very best for the future 💙

It’s officially been one year since we moved into our city centre hub, Melbourne House on Bold Lane! 🎉

So much has happened in the last 12 months, and we wanted to throw it back to where it all began - when we first got the keys and the amazing team at Davlyn Construction got to work transforming the building into the safe, welcoming space it is today.

Over the coming weeks, we'll be celebrating our first birthday by sharing more about the work that takes place at Melbourne House and highlighting the incredible businesses, supporters, funders and individuals who helped make it all possible.

Thank you to everyone who has been part of this journey so far. We’re incredibly proud of what has been achieved in the last year and excited to see what the future holds as we continue supporting children, young people and families across Derbyshire.

Here's to the next chapter! 🏠💙

A massive shout out and thank you to Charity: The Titan Children's Trust 💙

The Titan Children’s Trust are a Derbyshire-based children’s charity dedicated to creating opportunities for disadvantaged children and young people across the East Midlands through activities, day trips and life skills programmes.

Thanks to the kindness and generosity of Bob and his team, one of the young people supported by Safe and Sound has received a 🚴‍♂️bike, lock and safety helmet!

This thoughtful donation will help them access local clubs, activities and opportunities that may not have previously been possible, helping build confidence, independence and connection within their community.

Partnerships and support like this can make such a meaningful difference to young people’s lives. Thank you again to everyone at The Titan Children’s Trust for your continued support.

As part of Operation Sceptre, the national knife crime initiative led by the National Police Chiefs’ Council, Safe and Sound believe it is vital that young people are part of the conversation around community safety and knife crime awareness.

Alongside our outreach work speaking directly with young people across Derbyshire, some of the young people we support have also been using their creativity and graffiti skills to design stencils and posters exploring the impact of knife crime and the importance of making safe choices.

Giving young people a voice, listening to their experiences and creating opportunities for positive conversations is an important part of helping keep communities safe! 💙

This report is deeply concerning and highlights the growing scale of online harm facing children and young people: https://news.stv.tv/scotland/report-led-by-scottish-researchers-shows-one-in-four-children-manipulated-into-online-s*xual-interactions

The research found that 1 in 4 children have been manipulated into online s*xual interactions, while 1 in 6 reported being asked to send s*xual images or videos of themselves.

These statistics are alarming and reinforce how easily grooming and exploitation can happen online.

Young people can be targeted through apps, gaming platforms and social media, often by individuals pretending to offer friendship, attention or support.

That is why ongoing education, awareness and open conversations around online safety are so important.

Childlight, based at the University of Edinburgh, said 38.6% of girls and 19% of boys are affected before turning 18.

This case is extremely concerning and highlights the importance of remaining vigilant and taking reports from children and young people seriously: https://www.derbytelegraph.co.uk/news/derby-news/predatory-derbyshire-man-followed-children-10972316

Incidents like this can have a significant emotional impact on young people, leaving them feeling frightened, anxious and unsafe in places that should feel secure. It is vital that children know they can speak to a trusted adult if something doesn’t feel right and that their concerns will be listened to and acted upon.

Awareness, education and strong partnership working across communities all play an important role in helping keep children and young people safe.
