Black History, Achievement and News Derby Black History Month (BHM) takes place each year October 1-31.

Our mission calls us to alleviate marginalisation and isolation experienced by many who identify as Black by highlighting and celebrating our history achievements and news, to counter and challenge pervasive inaccurate perceptions in Britain. In Derby for the first time in a very long time, we are attempting to coordinate our celebration City and County-wide with a programme of events which promot

es the history and contributions of African and Caribbean communities and opens a dialogue which helps us to understand the present through our past. Thanks so much to the Black History Month Planning Group who gave their valuable time and ideas and insights towards making this fledgling start a reality. Special thanks to Niamh, Rio, Vanessa, Siobhan, Sophia, Lauren, Donna, Sue and Black Community Matters (BCM) for coordinating.
