Mini journals offer a view into what students are feeling, what they're learning, and so much more!

We asked: How did today's workshop make you feel?

Some of their responses:
"GOOD because I learned about the word CATASTROPHE!" 😂
"Happy because Story Planet was here today." 🥹

Our second Youth Ambassadors meeting was a success!

Nine former students (ages 14–23) have returned in a leadership role to share critical feedback on classroom challenges and offer fresh ideas for upcoming programs.

It's wonderful to watch them support one another and bring their unique voices to the table. Stay tuned for more from this incredible team! 💛

Big news! ✨

We’re excited to share that we’ve received a 3-year Grow Grant from the Ontario Trillium Foundation to support the expansion of our programs.

With this support, we’ll be able to double our programs and reach twice as many students over the next three years—creating more access, more opportunities, and more meaningful impact for young writers in our community.

Thank you to the Ontario Trillium Foundation for believing in our work and the young people we serve. We’re so grateful.

Stay tuned—we can’t wait to share what’s ahead 💛

Comic Con magic ✨

Friends, family—and even curious passersby—stopped by to celebrate the kids’ amazing creations and help us wrap up an incredible after-school program with The Children’s Book Bank Jane & Finch.

So proud of this talented crew of young writers and artists! 🎉

👀 Look through the window… what do you see?

In our WorldMaker workshop, kids explore landscapes and places, imagine new worlds, and draw what they see through their “window.” Then they bring those worlds to life with their own characters, stories, and adventures. 🌎✨

We met with our first Youth Ambassadors cohort this weekend, and the two hours flew by!

Nine former Story Planet students, now ages 15–22, gathered to reflect on our three pillars—literacy, creativity, and social-emotional well-being—and to share thoughtful insights from their own school experiences.

This group will continue to meet throughout the year, helping to shape our programming while strengthening their own leadership, collaboration, and communication skills. We are so proud to welcome these inspiring young people back into the Story Planet community. ✨

Creativity doesn’t stop when the school day ends. Led by Hilary Leung and Joseph Bonsu in partnership with the Children’s Book Bank, this after-school program offers young storytellers and artists a welcoming space to explore their ideas, build creative skills, and bring their imaginations to life. The program will conclude with a Comic Con celebration for families and the wider community. 🎉

In December, this amazing community supported and cheered on Story Planet’s Double the Stories campaign, and we want to say a huge thank you!💛

Together, we exceeded our goal. With generous matching support from the Auxilium Foundation, we raised $50,000 for Story Planet’s creative writing programs!

This support is already helping us meet growing demand, bringing joyful writing workshops to more young writers this winter and spring.

Thank you for believing in young voices, creativity, and the magic of stories. We feel incredibly lucky to have you as part of this community.

We’re right at the finish line! ✨

With just one day left in our Double the Stories match, this community has already helped raise $9,200 toward our $25,000 goal. Every gift made before midnight is still doubled, and these final hours truly matter.

If Story Planet’s work matters to you, we’d be grateful for your support as we close out the year.
