Professor William A. Masters Awarded 2026 Prize for Global Food Security

William A. Masters has been awarded the 2026 Georg and Greta Borgström Prize for Global Food Security by the Royal Swedish Academy of Forestry and Agriculture.

A faculty member at the Friedman School of Nutrition Science and Policy, Professor Masters is recognized for advancing research at the intersection of economics, agriculture, and nutrition, expanding access to healthy, affordable food worldwide.

The prize, awarded through the Georg and Greta Borgström Foundation, honours outstanding contributions to addressing the ecological, demographic, and economic challenges shaping global food security. The International Association of Agricultural Economists (IAAE) and Agricultural Economics are inviting submissions for a special issue focused on Latin America, to increase regional representation and amplify global visibility for research in this space.

We’re looking for papers on:
From consumption and nutrition to land use, environment, and macroeconomic analysis, across all scales and methodologies, including empirical, econometric, and policy-focused research.

A special issue is being planned in honour of Uma, former President of the International Association of Agricultural Economists (IAAE), recognizing her lasting contributions to rural development, agricultural transformation in developing countries, gender equity, and the role of international organizations in development.

Farm Foundation recently released 'Finding Common Ground in a Divided World', a global collaborative paper developed through the Global Forum on Farm Policy and Innovation (GFFPI).

Designed as a catalyst for conversation, this paper brings together diverse perspectives on agricultural sustainability and policy. It was intentionally crafted to frame key issues ahead of a series of dialogues held in October 2025 and later refined to incorporate the key insights that emerged from those discussions. The result is a forward-looking vision of how the global agriculture community can build stronger collaboration, drive innovation, and foster more coherent agricultural policy across agrifood systems.
