Second Harvest Deuxième Récolte

Second Harvest Deuxième Récolte Second Harvest is Canada’s largest food rescue organization and a global thought leader on food waste, food insecurity and food redistribution.

Our mission is to keep food where it belongs: On plates and out of landfills.

Recently, Second Harvest partnered with and to do a community food giveaway in St. Catharines.

Together, we redistributed hundreds of pounds of good surplus produce, helping get fresh, nutritious food into the hands of community members at a time when the area was facing a state of emergency due to flooding.

Food rescue is about more than keeping good food out of landfills — it’s about making sure it reaches people when and where it’s needed most.

Strengthening our food system isn't only about what we grow — it's about what we do with the food we have.

Reducing food waste across the supply chain is a critical piece of the puzzle.

What's one thing you'd want policymakers to know about food waste in Canada?

This is a conversation Canada needs to be having. Pass it on.

MUUSE helped us rethink event hydration with reusable cups that kept our community moving — and waste out of the equation.

At this year’s Second Harvest Truck Pull Challenge, participants used reusable cups and plates from MUUSE, helping reduce single-use waste while keeping the energy of the event going.

It’s one example of how we’re working with partners to find innovative, more sustainable solutions for events — because creating lasting impact means thinking beyond the event itself.

We’re proud to partner with organizations like MUUSE that share our commitment to a future with No Waste. No Hunger. 💚

When good food is rescued, communities thrive.

Thanks to a generous $50,000 gift from the Shania Twain Foundation, Second Harvest will be able to strengthen food rescue and redistribution efforts across Alberta and further support our Feeding Our Future program in Ontario.

Every dollar helps more surplus food reach people instead of landfills — reducing waste, lowering greenhouse gas emissions and helping ensure more families and communities have access to nutritious food.

Thank you, Shania Twain, for investing in a future where good food is never wasted and everyone has access to the nourishment they need.

🎶 Folk festivals are all about community — and so is food rescue.

This year, Second Harvest rescued 4,215 lbs of surplus food from the Winnipeg Folk Festival and ensured it reached Siloam Mission, helping keep good food where it's needed most.

A huge thank you to Chef Ben Kramer, the Winnipeg Folk Festival and Siloam Mission Siloam Mission for making this rescue possible. We're proud to be back for a second year, ensuring good food reaches people instead of going to waste.

Together, we're proving that when we work together, good food can do even more.

Food insecurity isn't just about food.

Last month, when speaking in the House of Commons, our CEO Lori Nikkel explained why poverty reduction, food waste reduction and smart public policy must work together if we want lasting solutions.

Food rescue meets today's need. Systemic change helps prevent tomorrow's.
