GlobalMedic’s Rapid Response Team arrived in Blue Ridge, Alberta, approximately two hours northwest of Edmonton, to deliver three fire skids to surrounding municipalities.

The units are being distributed to Blue Ridge, Fort Assiniboine, and Goose Lake to support wildfire response efforts connected to the ongoing fire near Whitecourt.

Once immediate operations are complete, the departments will keep the fire skids to strengthen long-term emergency preparedness and wildfire response capacity within their own communities.

A sincere thank you to the Canadian Red Cross for their partnership and continued support in helping communities respond to wildfire emergencies.

As wildfire season worsens across Canada, more volunteer fire departments are being called to the front lines — but many still lack the equipment they need to respond effectively.

That’s why GlobalMedic has been distributing fire skids across the country. These units transform regular pickup trucks into rapid-response fire trucks equipped with a 1,000L water tank, pump, and hose, helping firefighters reach remote wildfire areas faster.

So far, more than 650 fire skids have been deployed coast to coast to coast. But what makes the program work is its logistics. Moving dozens of units at a time, coordinating warehouse space, transportation, unloading, and distribution across multiple provinces is a massive operation — and it’s something GlobalMedic has become incredibly effective at after responding to disasters in more than 90 countries worldwide.

With another 32 units now arriving in Ontario for deployment, our work continues — getting this critical equipment into the hands of firefighters before so they can be prepared for wildfire season.

Strengthening wildfire response in Albania.

Recently, GlobalMedic’s Executive Director, Rahul Singh, joined Albania’s military-led civilian emergency response teams in Tiranë to support frontline wildfire preparedness efforts.

As climate change drives hotter temperatures and more frequent fires, communities across Albania face growing pressure and limited response capacity. In 2025 alone, wildfires burned approximately 60,000 hectares, making it one of the country’s most severe fire seasons on record.

Working alongside government partners, we have donated 4 fire skid units, each equipped with a 1,000-litre tank, pump, and hose system that transforms a pickup truck into a rapid-response firefighting vehicle.

These units allow emergency teams to move faster, access rugged terrain, and get closer to fires before they spread.

Now deployed and training underway, these frontline teams are better equipped to protect communities across Albania during the months ahead.

In Terra Nova, protecting a small population of around 100 residents comes with unique challenges, particularly with nearby cabin developments that increase the risk of fires spreading into the community.

Supported by a team of approximately 22 volunteer firefighters, the department relies on adaptable equipment to respond effectively across its area, especially in remote or hard-to-reach locations.

With support from GlobalMedic, the addition of a Fire Skid acts as a valuable rapid response tool helping strengthen local firefighting capacity and improve readiness to protect both residents and surrounding areas.

As wildfires continue to intensify across Türkiye, more urban fire departments are being called to protect communities along the wildland-urban interface.

In İzmir, which has more than 60 fire stations and nearly 1,500 firefighters, crews have been looking for new ways to strengthen wildfire response capacity.

Working with local partners, GlobalMedic helped develop and build fire skids in Türkiye — 1,000-litre tanks mounted on welded skids with pumps and hoses that transform pickup trucks into rapid-response fire trucks.

Following successful testing, the first 10 units were handed over to the İzmir Fire Service. With wildfire season approaching, these skids will help firefighters access remote terrain, respond faster, and get closer to the front lines when communities are threatened.

Those words mean a lot to us.

Over the course of a weekend, we distributed 500 fire coveralls to volunteer fire departments from communities across British Columbia. From small rural departments to growing volunteer crews, firefighters shared how this equipment will support training, wildfire response, and the day-to-day work they do to keep their communities safe.

We were especially proud to hear from departments already putting their GlobalMedic fire skids to use and preparing for another wildfire season.

GlobalMedic would like to say a big thank you to Airlink for making this deployment possible. Their support in providing passenger flights enabled our Rapid Response Team to travel to Peru and deliver lifesaving equipment where it is needed most.

With this support, the team delivered 9 fire skids to local departments and conducted on-the-ground training to strengthen wildfire response capacity. Field sessions were carried out in collaboration with INBP and CGBVP fire services.

This partnership helped ensure both the delivery of equipment and that teams received the necessary training to use it effectively, strengthening the ability of firefighters to respond to wildfires across the country.

At a newly established training base in Tiranë, frontline responders gathered to train on new fire skid units donated by GlobalMedic to help strengthen wildfire response efforts across Albania.

Each unit contains a 1,000-litre tank mounted on a welded skid with a pump and hose — transforming pickup trucks into rapid-response wildfire vehicles capable of reaching remote areas and scaling mountainous terrain. Built in Edmonton, these skids were provided to Albanian military personnel who support civilian protection and wildfire response operations throughout the country.

Following one of Albania’s most challenging wildfire seasons, firefighters and emergency responders are preparing for another demanding summer. With this equipment now in service, crews will be better equipped to reach active fire zones, support communities at risk, and protect forests across the region.

Ric Bresee, MPP for Hastings, Lennox and Addington NDP Federal/Provincial Riding Association , joined Mayor Kimberly Carson of Limerick Township and Fire Chief Greg Maxwell to review the new drone technology now available to their fire services thanks to GlobalMedic, Prepared Ontario, and support from the Ministry of Emergency Preparedness.

It wasn’t just a demonstration, it was hands-on learning. Teams received instruction, practiced controls, and explored how this equipment can support search and rescue, wildfire detection, disaster response, and missing person investigations. With thermal imaging and real-time communication capabilities, these drones add a critical layer of situational awareness in emergencies.

Chief Maxwell highlighted the importance of training tools that mirror the larger operational drones, allowing firefighters to build confidence and skill before deployment. For a municipality with vast wilderness, lakes, and remote terrain, this technology expands their ability to locate individuals in distress and respond more efficiently.
