NSCSC is often called the “help desk” of the industry. We help connect industry partners with the people, resources and opportunities they need to succeed. Sometimes, that means connecting others with the support they need—and sometimes, it means seeing our own industry partners step up to help.

When APTEC needed a space for four days of safety training, IBEW Local 1852 Business Manager Brad Lannon and his team stepped in, and provided the facility. This is what a connected industry looks like: partners working together and supporting one another to help build a safer, stronger workforce.

We were glad to help make that connection and visit participants during their training. A big thank you to Brad Lannon and the IBEW Local 1852 team for opening their doors and demonstrating the value of partnership! 👏

Through hands-on experiences, youth discovered the many opportunities available in the construction industry, from skilled trades to management occupations. Whether working directly on the tools or coordinating projects and teams, there are many pathways to building a rewarding career in construction.

By sparking curiosity and building skills today, we’re helping inspire the next generation to shape the world of tomorrow. Because the future of construction starts with them! 🔨

A morning worth celebrating! 👏

At the Nova Scotia Apprenticeship Agency AGM, 2 participants from our Enhanced Direct Entry programs took the stage to share their experiences and journeys.

Through our Enhanced Direct Entry programs, participants accumulate apprenticeship hours as part of their training, and once they secure employment, we support them in registering as apprentices. Seeing our participants share their experiences with industry partners was a great opportunity to showcase how training and industry collaboration come together to support pathways into the skilled trades.

Thank you to our participants for sharing their stories and to our industry partners for their continued support! 🤝

🔨 Trades in Action at South Queens Middle School

What does it look like to introduce students to the world of skilled trades? It looks like getting hands-on learning directly from industry professionals, and discovering just how many possibilities are out there! 🛠️

Mobile Construction Experience (MCE) brought skilled trades professionals to South Queens Middle School to lead hands-on booths, giving students the opportunity to explore different trades and get a closer look at the work involved.

Representation matters, too! Women trades professionals led several of the booths, giving students the opportunity to learn from women working in the industry and see firsthand the diverse people who are helping shape the skilled trades.

Sometimes, seeing a trade up close is the first step toward imagining yourself in it.✨

Industry Visits, Meaningful Conversations 🦺

Recently, we welcomed Shauntelle Hollett and Heather Haseloh to the NSCSC Trades Exhibition Hall. In 2024, Shauntelle made history as the first woman elected Business Manager of a union affiliated with the International Union of Painters and Allied Trades (IUPAT). She was joined by Heather Haseloh, Assistant Business Manager.

We also had the opportunity to meet with Sumayya Mullassery, Connector Program Coordinator with the Cape Breton Partnership to discuss fall engagement planning, upcoming opportunities, and ways to collaborate.

From welcoming partners to planning future engagement, these conversations create opportunities to share ideas, strengthen relationships, and continue supporting the skilled trades across our region. 🦺🏗️

October is National Disability Employment Awareness Month (NDEAM). 💜💙

Disability employment inclusion deserves to be seen, recognized, and talked about.

On October 15, Light It Up! for NDEAM will bring that message to communities across Canada as buildings, landmarks, and businesses light up purple and blue in support of disability employment inclusion.

✨ Here are some of the places that have lit up in past years.

NSCSC is participating this year. Will your organization join this initiative on October 15? Share photos online with
